The cable is configured to be extended and retracted relative to the housing and to at least partially surround an item of merchandise. The merchandise security device may also include at least one sensor operably engaged with the housing and configured to detect unauthorized movement of the housing relative to the item of merchandise. The merchandise security device may further include a lock mechanism configured to lock the cable about the item of merchandise.

In some embodiments, an apparatus for locking a computing device includes an actuator, a locking protrusion connected to a first portion of the computing device, a locking receptacle connected to a second portion of the computing device, a shape memory material (SMM) wire, and a force conditioner. The SMM wire has a first state and a second state and is movable between states by the actuator. The first state and the second state have first and second lengths, respectively. Moving from the first state to the second state applies a contraction force along a longitudinal direction of the SMM wire. The force conditioner is configured to apply a return force to the SMM wire that opposes the contraction face. The return force returns the SMM wire toward the first state while moving a maximum available force of the SMM wire to the second state of the SMM wire.

In a securing device for attachment of an object which is to be secured, wherein the securing device has a housing with a base plate and a lid as well as means for generating an alarm when the securing device is removed from the object without authorization, wherein the securing device is attached to the object by a double-adhesive strip having a double-adhesive first section and a non-adhesive second section. The first section has an initial adhesiveness which is lost when the strip is stretched. The second section forms a grip for stretching the double-adhesive strip. The double-adhesive strip is attached on one side to the underside of the base plate so that it is covered by the base plate and on the other side to the object. The non-adhesive second section is placed between the base plate and the lid in its closed state such the grip is only accessible only in the open state of the housing. Also disclosed is an object securing system having a housing for being secured to an object by two belts crossing each other, the housing having a base plate, a lid, a locking mechanism and an alarm triggering apparatus. The base plate can be slid between the surface of the object and the belts, so that the belts cross at the center of the base plate to hold the housing on the object. The locking mechanism when in the locked state prevents the base plate from being slid out from between the object and the belts, and an alarm is triggered when the securing device is detached from the object without authorization.

A merchandise security device configured for use with an electronic key for locking and/or unlocking a lock mechanism is provided. The merchandise security device may include a housing operably coupled with a cable, wherein the cable is configured to be extended and retracted relative to the housing and to at least partially surround an item of merchandise. The security device may also include a lock mechanism configured to releasably secure the cable relative to the housing for locking the cable about the item of merchandise. In addition, the lock mechanism is configured to receive electrical power for unlocking the lock mechanism so that the housing and the cable may be removed from the item of merchandise.

The sensor may be configured to, in response to detecting that the pivot member is in the deflected position, generate an alert signal. The example device may also include processing circuitry configured to receive the alert signal and, in response to receiving the alert signal, transmit an alert triggering signal to initiate an alert.

The housing and base have connecting interfaces which act together to attach the housing to the base. The housing and base have matching apertures. A switch and a wrapping splitter extend from the housing through the apertures. The switch detects when the device is attached to an object and the wrapping splitter splits the wrapping to prevent the wrapping from being used to defeat the switch. Electronics monitor the status of the switch. The apparatus may employ a restraining mechanism to prevent the operation of the wrapping splitter unless the housing is attached to the base. The housing and base may be attached to each other by a manually movable latch, which may also actuate the wrapping splitter. Electronics in the apparatus receive and send signals.

Security device with multiple control states

A security device is provided including a security lock configured to retain an object when locked, a receiver configured to receive a security code transmission, and processing circuitry configured to transition the security lock between a locked state and unlock permissive state based on receipt of a security code. The security lock may initially be set to the unlock permissive state. At the first instance in which a security code is received, the processing circuitry may transition the security lock to a key permissive mode in which the security lock transitions to a locked state and in response to a subsequent receipt of the security code the security lock transitions to the unlock permissive state.
