An automatic hatch assembly for bulk material containers includes a hatch cover which covers a fill opening of the container, and may be retrofitted to existing containers equipped with a conventional hatch cover. A drive unit is operable to open and close the hatch cover, and a locking assembly actuates an extendable lock member. Optionally, a pneumatic seal is provided within the cover for sealing the container from the outside environment. The locking assembly is adapted to resist opening forces applied to the cover, such as when the container is pressurized, and a sequencing controller may be provided to facilitate automated operation of the opening/closing, locking/unlocking, and/or sealing/unsealing of the hatch cover.

The door panel is hingedly attached relative to rear frame elements at the hinge side and is movable to occupy the door opening. The door panel defines a drain port under a horizontal beam. The drain port includes a stopcock having an open and a closed state. The stopcock is selectably movable from the open to the closed state or from the closed to the open state. The container body defines at least two additional ports situated above the midpoints of the frames and includes fittings to engage vacuum hoses such that any volume the vacuum truck draws through one of the hoses, the container body draws a corresponding volume through the other of the two ports.

An insertion pin includes a pin member on which a circuit board, an inspection antenna, and an inspection chip are mounted. The circuit board includes a main circuit, a main chip, and an inspection circuit set in an open-circuit condition with respect to the inspection antenna and the inspection chip. A lock base includes a main antenna matching the main chip. When the lock base and the pin member are combined and locked together, the main chip is electrically connected with the main antenna to emit a first signal for monitoring with an identification device, and the inspection circuit is electrically connectable with the inspection chip and the inspection antenna to emit a second signal to allow a mobile phone to carry out quality control to determine if the first signal is in normal operation. Cutting off the insertion pin terminates both the first and second signals.

The seal generates current location information. The current location information is compared to location permissions indicating time or place where the seal may be disabled. If the current location corresponds to an authorized unsealing location, the seal may disengage to allow access to the vehicle.

The security application is configured to prompt a user to carry out a plurality of external security checks of the vehicle, provide a facility for the user to confirm completion of those checks, provide a facility for the user to associate one or more photographs, taken by the portable electronic device, with one or more of the checks, and to upload log data to the database, the log data indicating at least a date and time of completion of the checks. A sensor device is also provided, mounted within a freight area of the vehicle, having one or more sensors, and being operable to communicate an alert to the portable electronic device in the event that an anomaly is detected inside the freight area. In this way, real time detection of security breaches within a freight trailer or container may be achieved. The driver is not required to engage directly with an intruder, and is facilitated in reporting the crime and demonstrating that appropriate precautions had been taken. Accordingly, driver safety may be improved and freight thefts and or losses via contamination reduced.
