SELF-ALIGNING MODULAR LATCH

A container is disclosed that has a housing and a lid. The lid has a planar portion and a latch that is freely movable parallel to the planar portion of the lid. The latch has a retention feature and a first reference surface that is perpendicular to the planar portion of the lid. There is a latch mechanism coupled to the housing that has an engagement element configured to engage the retention feature of the latch and a first alignment feature having a first alignment surface. The first alignment feature is configured to laterally displace the latch in a first direction such that the first reference surface aligns with the first alignment surface when the lid is brought together with the housing with the fastener laterally displaced away from the engagement element in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction.

Vehicle glove box latch

A vehicle glove box latch includes a housing, a paddle pivotably connected to the housing, a rotor pivotably connected to the housing, a pawl coupled to the rotor and having an end that is engaged with an opening in the vehicle, and a lock barrel mounted to the housing for locking and unlocking the vehicle glove box latch. In a locked state of the lock barrel, the pawl cannot be disengaged from the opening in the vehicle. In an unlocked state of the lock barrel, the pawl can be disengaged from the opening for opening the vehicle glove box. The lock barrel, the rotor and the rotor mounting portion are concentrically aligned along an axis, which reduces the depth of the latch, which reduces the space in the glove box necessary for accommodating the latch, thereby resulting in an increase in the available storage space in the glove box.

A lock device includes a base member fixed on an opening/closing member, an operation member rotatably supported on the base member, and a rod configured to move forward and backward to be engaged with and disengaged from a locked portion of the fixed member in response to operation of the operation member. The operation member includes a pivot portion and a transmission portion. The base member includes a first attachment portion and a second attachment portion. When the transmission portion presses an inclined surface of the rod and thus causes the rod to move backward, the first attachment portion abuts against the rod, thereby limiting movement of the rod in the direction intersecting with the forward and backward movement direction of the rod.
