A power tailgate detection system is provided including a vehicle, a sensing system, and a control unit. The vehicle includes a bumper and a tailgate moveable between a closed position and an open position. The sensing system is disposed on an exterior surface of the tailgate and includes at least one emitter and at least one receiver. The emitter is positioned to emit radiation in a direction parallel to the exterior surface of the tailgate. The receiver is positioned to receive the radiation emitted by the emitter. The control unit is configured to control operation of the tailgate between to prohibit movement of the tailgate toward the open position when an object interferes with the radiation.

A power swing door actuator for moving a passenger swing door relative to a body portion of a motor vehicle. The power swing door actuator includes a housing rigidly fixed to the swing door, a motor mounted to the housing, a connector link having a first end pivotably coupled to the vehicle body portion and a second end pivotably coupled to a drive nut of a spindle drive mechanism. A leadscrew of the spindle drive mechanism is rotatably driven by the motor for causing relative translational movement between the drive nut and the leadscrew which, in turn, results in pivoting movement of the connector link while the vehicle door swings between open and closed positions in response to selective actuation of the motor. The power swing door actuator is further equipped with an integrated door check mechanism.

A method of controlling the movements of at least one controllable door of a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle component. A control device and a sensor arrangement are assigned to the door, and the door has a controllable motion influencing device. A motion of a door wing of the door can be controlled and influenced by way of the motion influencing device in between a closed position and an open position. The sensor arrangement includes a distance sensor in the movable door wing that captures distance data during the motion, and obtains from the distance data captured with the distance sensor in different angular positions, the position of at least one object in the surrounding area of the door wing, by way of triangulation.

A method for controlling door movements of a controllable door of a motor vehicle, and a motor vehicle component. A control device and a sensor arrangement are attributed to the door. The door has a controllable motion influencing device, wherein a motion of a door wing of the door can be controlled and influenced by way of the motion influencing device to alternate between a closed position and an open position. The control device obtains position data which are representative of the geographic position of the motor vehicle and the control device controls movements of the door wing in dependence on the position data.

A door component has a controllable damping device containing a magnetorheological fluid as a working fluid. Two connection units can move relative to one another.
