SILICA FIBER COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE
20200139015 · 2020-05-07 ·

Embodiments of the invention include silica fiber compositions useful for treatment of animal wounds and tissue, as well as for other applications in industry. The fiber compositions may be formed via electrospinning of a sol gel produced with a silicon alkoxide reagent, such as tetraethyl ortho silicate, alcohol solvent, and an acid catalyst.

The present invention provides compositions comprised of oxidized cellulose (OC) and glycerol, with the ratio of glycerol to OC being at least about 0.5:1 w/w glycerol:OC and/or with the viscosity of the composition being at least 10% higher than that of the glycerol and lower than about 2.610.sup.9 cP, with the total water content being less than about 8% w/w. Further provided is adhesion prevention powder comprised of OC having a carboxyl content of equal to below 18% characterized by high adhesion prevention potency. Uses of the compositions as hemostats or as adhesion prevention material, and methods for the preparation thereof are further provided herein.

Polymer particles

Biodegradable, cross-linked polymer particle embolics and methods of making the same are described. The particle embolics can be used as embolization agents.

Vacuum expanded dry composition and syringe for retaining same

The present disclosure relates to a method for vacuum expansion of a paste prior to freeze-drying said paste to achieve a dry paste composition which reconstitutes efficiently to form a flowable paste upon addition of an aqueous medium. The present disclosure further relates to a syringe for retaining a dry paste composition in a vacuum.

THERAPEUTIC POLYMER GEL SYSTEM TO PROMOTE HEALING AND PREVENT FIBROSIS AT A WOUND OR SURGICAL SITE

Disclosed herein are therapeutic polymer gel systems for promoting healing of a wound or surgical site in a subject. The therapeutic polymer gel forms a microporous network and may be applied or injected in a fluid form and annealed or crosslinked after application to the wound or surgical site. The microporous gel may optionally contain various therapeutic agents throughout the therapeutic polymer gel which are released.

Film for oral hemostasis and wound protection
10582915 · 2020-03-10 · ·

The present disclosure relates to a film for oral hemostasis and wound protection and, more particularly, to a film for oral hemostasis and wound protection which, being attached to a wound area in an oral cavity, delays or prevents microbleeds and controls medicinal component release. The film provided by the present disclosure is capable of including a polyol, an alcohol and a biodegradable polymer in the state of partial swelling, thereby locally absorbing blood or pus or arresting hemorrhage. Moreover, due to its high elongation ratio, the film provided by the present disclosure is capable of maintaining its adhesive force even when having blood, saliva and pus absorbed inside an oral cavity and conveniently deforming according to the shape of a seriously corrugated local area, which causes only slight foreign body sensation even after a long period of time of attachment on to the local area. In addition, the film provided by the present disclosure includes a disintegrant which is dissolved and released by reacting with blood to form microchannels that act as paths for drug release and is capable of adjusting the amount and the size of the microchannels, thereby controlling the amount of drug release. The present disclosure doesn't require a patient to detach the film attached inside an oral cavity by hand because the adhesive layer and the backing layer dissolve entirely over time.

Nanocomposite Ionic-Covalent Entanglement Reinforcement Mechanism and Hydrogel

A biodegradable and biocompatible three dimensional construct comprising a combination of a nano silicate (e.g., laponite) and two different polymers, the two polymers each individually providing at least one covalently linked polymer chain and at least one ionically linked polymer chain, the polymeric chains forming a dual strengthening intertwined polymeric system. The constructs demonstrate improved mechanical and strength properties, while the bioinks provide a material having superior printability characteristics suitable for printing a three dimensional biodegradable construct having an aspect ratio of greater than 2.0. The bioink may also comprise cells or combinations of cells. Methods of using the constructs and bioinks for wound healing preparations and tissue regeneration are also provided.

Hemostatic Powder Delivery Devices and Methods
20200061310 · 2020-02-27 ·

The present invention is directed to a device for the expression of a hemostatic powder having an elongated reservoir with a manual air pump, such as a bellows, at a proximal end and an expression port at a distal end. A porous filter is slidably disposed within the reservoir between the bellows and plunger and the expression port, and a spring is disposed within the reservoir between the air pump and the plunger. The powder is disposed within the reservoir between the porous filter and the expression port, and the pump is in a fluid communication with the expression port through the porous filter and through the powder.
