FOLDABLE LADDER

A foldable ladder has a first ladder portion and a second ladder portion hingedly attached to the first ladder portion by a pair of hinge mechanisms. Each hinge mechanism adapted to lock the first and second ladder portions such that the first ladder portion and the second ladder portion form an angle therebetween. The hinge mechanism has a locking pin to lock the first and second ladder portions at an angular position. Each rung is connected to a column by a connector assembly having first and second release buttons.

A vertically orientated ladder apparatus allowing a climber to adopt an improved climbing stance wherein the climber's arms are poised economically in front of the climber within the climbing passage; the climber's legs are spread for the lateral stability of the climber so as to reduce the tendency of the climber falling sideways; and the climber is substantially upright such that the climber's center of gravity lies substantially between the opposing steps (11) so as to allow the climber to release the climber's grip on the hand rails (14) while remaining balanced and supported by the legs of the climber. Opposing steps (11) are level or staggered. Embodiments include three or four stiles (12, 15).

EXTENDABLE / RETRACTABLE LADDER

An extendable/retractable ladder assembly includes a first stile and a second stile and a plurality of rungs extending therebetween. Each stile may comprise a plurality of columns disposed in a nested arrangement for relative axial movement in a telescopic fashion. A connector assembly connects the rungs to respective columns in the first and second stiles. The ladder has improved manufacturability since connector assemblies may be assembled before connecting the rungs to respective columns. The standing surface of the rungs may be angled such that it is rotated towards horizontal when the ladder assembly is leaned against a wall. A latch assembly may be used to selectively lock relative axial movement between adjacent columns. The latch assembly includes a locking pin assembly comprised of a central post and an outer metal sleeve. An air damper may also be used to control airflow through the columns.

A working ladder capable of serving as a working platform, comprises a ladder frame body having a front portion and a top; and a step assembly. The step assembly comprises at least a bottom step and an upper step located above the bottom step; the rear shaft comprises a bottom rear shaft and an upper rear shaft; two movable auxiliary support rods capable of swinging up and down are disposed in the front portion of the ladder frame body; an auxiliary shaft for the rear end of the bottom step to rest on is horizontally disposed on the top of the ladder frame body; when the auxiliary support rods are in a downward position, the rear end of the bottom step rests on the lowermost bottom rear shaft; when the auxiliary support rods are in a upwardly position, the bottom step moves upwardly to the top of the ladder frame body, and meanwhile the rear end of the bottom step rests on the auxiliary shaft. The steps of the working ladder can be used as working platforms.

ERGONOMIC LADDER

A ladder includes a pair of generally curved side rails arranged in a spaced apart manner, a plurality of fixed rungs disposed between the side rails, a plurality of pairs of rung supports, and a plurality of hinged rungs. Each of the pairs of rung supports is horizontally aligned with each other and disposed on respective inner sides of the side rails. The rung supports are spaced apart from the fixed rungs along lengths of the side rails. Each rung support includes a flanged end portion having an aperture therein. Each hinged rung is associated with a respective pair of rung supports. Each hinged rung has a first end pivotally coupled to the flanged end portion of a first rung support in the respective pair of rung supports such that each hinged rung is pivotal between a secured position between the rung supports and a retracted position.

A storm shelter escape door assembly includes a frame and a door hinged to the frame. The frame includes three inner sidewalls, an open end, and a horizontal attachment plate extending outwardly from upper edges of the inner sidewalls. The door has at least three outer sidewalls joined by a door face. The door is hinged to the frame adjacent the open end and below the horizontal attachment plate so the door is openable in an inward direction away from the horizontal attachment plate. When the door is in a closed position, the door face angles downwardly toward the open end to cause water to run off the door.
