Mobile coiled tubing drilling apparatus
11136837 · 2021-10-05 · ·

A mobile, coiled tubing drilling apparatus includes a non-rotating mast on a mobile platform. The mast has mounted thereon an injector, a coiled tubing reel having a tubing pay-off point associated therewith, and a tubing control system. The tubing control system is located between the reel and the injector, and includes a tubing abutment adjacent the tubing pay-off point for applying an opposite bend to the tubing during pay-out of the tubing. The reel is mounted for horizontal (x,y) movement such that, during pay-out of the tubing, the tubing pay-off point can be maintained generally above the injector, and can also be moved towards or away from the tubing abutment.

DRILL FLOOR ROTARY SLIP UNIT WITH HYDRAULIC SWIVEL
20210254417 · 2021-08-19 ·

hydraulic slip unit for a rotary drive of a rig floor comprises a main body including hydraulically operated slips disposed within a passage that can engage a pipe string within the passage to transmit vertical loads and torque for rotation of the pipe string. A hydraulic swivel is connected to the main body, wherein the swivel includes a first portion attached to the main body to rotate therewith and a second portion slidably mounted to the first portion to rotate relative thereto. Both first and second portions include oil passages therethrough in fluid communication with one another during relative rotation. During rotation of the main body, the second portion is connectable to static hydraulic supply lines that do not rotate, and fluid from the supply lines can travel through the respective oil passages to provide hydraulic power to the slips in the main body to selectively move them.

Vertical lift rotary table

A system, includes a movable platform slidingly coupled to one or more supports and configured to be selectively moved towards a drill floor and away from the drill floor. The system also includes a roughneck disposed on the movable platform and configured to make up or break out a threaded joint between a first tubular segment and a second tubular segment. The system additionally includes a support member disposed on the movable platform and configured to support one of the first tubular segment or the second tubular segment as the movable platform is selectively moved towards a drill floor or away from the drill floor.

Devices, systems, and methods for top drive clearing

Systems and methods for clearing a top drive from an operational area of the mast such that operations may be performed along the rail without interference from the top drive. Systems and methods of the present disclosure provide for arranging the top drive in a parked configuration outside of, or generally behind, the mast. A guide rail may be arranged within an operational area of a mast and may have a pair of interchangeable rail sections, each of which may be configured for arrangement in either an operating configuration, where the rail section may be positioned within the operational area of the mast to form part of the rail, or a parked configuration, where the rail section may be positioned outside of the operational area. Each interchangeable rail section may be pivotable about an axis and may be arranged on a pivotable gate of the mast.

Measuring formation porosity and permeability

Values for porosity and permeability of core samples in a borehole are estimated by generating radial waves with an acoustic source in fluid around the core sample, and measuring pressure in the fluid. Moreover, the acoustic source operates at frequency close to a resonant frequency of the core sample. After the acoustic source no longer operates at the resonant frequency, pressure in the fluid attenuates over time. The pressure attenuation is recorded by the pressure measurements, along with the pressure in the fluid at the first harmonic (spectral component). The pressure attenuation and spectral component each are dependent on porosity and permeability of the core sample. Thus values for the porosity and permeability are determined based on the arithmetic relationships between pressure attenuation and the spectral component and porosity and permeability.

Rotary drill head for coiled tubing drilling apparatus

A mobile, coiled tubing drilling apparatus with a rotary drill head, includes a non-rotating mast on a mobile platform. The mast has mounted thereon an injector below a coiled tubing reel. The injector defines an operational axis for the coiled tubing. The rotary drill head is pivotally mounted on the injector so as to be movable between a retracted position away from the operational axis and an operating position in line with the operational axis. The rotary drill head includes a top swivel for non-rotating connection to the coiled tubing and a bottom spindle for rotating connection to a pipe section. The top swivel and the bottom spindle provide fluid communication between connected coiled tubing and connected pipe section during operation.

DRILL PIPE TALLY SYSTEM

Systems for pipe tallying in well drilling operations and methods for using the same are described. The pipe tallying systems determine a number of pipe joints that pass through an inlet based on the diameter of the pipe joint when compared against a drill pipe diameter. The pipe tally system maintains a tally of drill pipes in a borehole and the pipe tally system can produce a borehole depth measurement based on the length of pipe in the borehole.
