METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING AND DISASSEMBLING MARINE RISER AND AUXILIARY LINES AND WELL PRESSURE CONTROL SYSTEM

A method for assembling a riser from a platform on the surface of a body of water includes assembling segments of riser end to end through a drill floor using a main drilling unit on the platform. At least one auxiliary line is assembled from segments connected end to end through an auxiliary hoisting unit on the platform. The auxiliary hoisting unit is displaced laterally from the main drilling unit. The assembled riser is connected to a wellhead proximate the bottom of the body of water.

Reamer cutting insert for use in drilling operations

The invention relates to reamers used in downhole oil well drilling operations, particularly in reaming while drilling applications. Presented is a reamer having an interior channel which runs along an elongate axis of the entire body of the reamer, wherein there are openings along both ends of the reamer, exposing the interior channel. Additionally presented in the reamer are a plurality of paths extending parallel to the interior channel along the exterior of the body of the reamer, and running in a helical pattern along the entirety of the exterior of the body of the reamer. Disposed within the helical paths are a plurality of cutting inserts, which cutting inserts are enabled to provides a uniform cutting surface against a well bore, which preferably improves cutting action and reduces strain on the reamer.

Offshore floating drilling platform for operation in ice-infested waters and harsh environment

An offshore floating platform for operating in ice-infested waters and harsh environment for oil/gas drilling and exploration in Arctic area comprises four (4) sections, i.e., an upper cone, a transition section, a lower cone and a bottom frame. The upper cone, the transition section, the lower cone and the bottom frame are coincident with a centerline, and a through center well is designed around the centerline from top to bottom. The diameter at the bottom frame is smaller than that of the main body of the center well. The upper cone, the transition section and the lower cone are internally connected and divided into plural compartments. Through ballast compartments are designed outside the sidewall of the upper cone, the transition section and the lower cone vertically connected with a consistent cross-sectional area from top to bottom. Plural ballast compartments and void compartments are arranged within the bottom frame.
