A cutting bit includes a body, a plurality of blades, and at least one ultrahard insert cast directly into at least one of the plurality of blades. The ultrahard insert is positioned with a rear face directly contacting the blade.
MECHANICAL LOCKING OF OVOID CUTTING ELEMENT WITH CARBIDE MATRIX
A cutting assembly for use in a drill bit has an ovoid insert including an ultrahard material. The ovoid insert is cast in a matrix such that the matrix surrounds at least part of the ovoid insert, limiting movement of the ovoid insert. Material is removed from the top surface and sidewall of the cutting assembly to produce a cutting edge.

Polycrystalline diamond chisel type insert for use in percussion drill bits even for use in large hole percussion drilling of oil wells
A polycrystalline diamond drill bit for percussion drilling, in small hole high silica ground is disclosed which has a cutting face having an inner flat face and an outer beveled peripheral surface, a number of first polycrystalline diamond tipped inserts having a first diameter inserted into the inner flat face and the outer beveled peripheral surface, and a number of second polycrystalline diamond tipped inserts having a second diameter inserted into the inner flat face, with the second diameter being different than the first diameter. The cutting angle and the radius of the tip of each insert in addition to the diameter of the inserts, provide for use of a machine thrust pressure and machine torque pressure at low ranges when the PCD bits are used in percussion drilling. The percussion drilling, with larger bits, may be used for rotary oil drilling, and operating at a machine thrust and torque of less than 20 Bar.

A subterranean support-bolt drill bit has a bit body rotatable about a central axis, the bit body having a forward end and a rearward end axially spaced away from the forward end. The support-bolt drill bit includes at least one bit cutting element coupled to the bit body, the at least one bit cutting element including a cutting edge. The support-bolt drill bit also includes a central pilot projecting from the bit body beyond the at least one bit cutting element in an axially forward direction, the central pilot including a pilot cutting edge.
Cutter element for rock removal applications
A cutter element for rock removal comprises a free standing PCD body (801, 1801) comprising two or more physical volumes (1702, 1703) within the boundary of the PCD body, wherein adjacent physical volumes differ in one or more of diamond and metal network compositional ratio, metal elemental composition and diamond grain size distribution, a functional working volume (803) distal to the PCD body, the functional working volume forming in use a region which comes into contact with the rock. A functional support volume (804) extant in use and having a proximal free surface extends from the functional working volume. The PCD body has a shape having an aspect ratio such that the ratio of the length (ae) of the longest edge of the circumscribing rectangular parallelepiped of the overall PCD body to the largest width (ad) of the smallest rectangular face from which the functional working volume extends of the circumscribing rectangular parallelepiped, is greater than or equal to 1.0, and one or more of the physical volumes forms at least part of one or other or both of the functional working volume and the functional support volume.

Multidirectional auger bit
The invention is a multidirectional auger bit mounted on an auger head, and includes a base portion having a distal end that protrudes in an axial direction of the auger head, and leg portions that is continuous with the base portion. The base portion includes a flat portion that is continuous with the leg portion, first inclined portions that are inclined from the flat portion toward a distal end side in the axial direction of the auger head, left and right side surface portions that are continuous from the first inclined portion, and a second inclined portion that is inclined from the first inclined portion toward a leg portion side in the axial direction of the auger head.
