INDUCTIVE COUPLING
An inductive coupler includes a first transceiver electrically coupled to a first coil through a first tuning circuit. The inductive coupler may also include a second transceiver electrically coupled to a second coil through a second tuning circuit, where the second coil is positioned substantially concentric with the first coil.
SYSTEM AND METHODOLOGY FOR POWER CABLE COUPLING
A technique facilitates forming couplings along a power cable used, for example, to supply power to an electric submersible pumping system. In coupling the power cable to the electric submersible pumping system, a pothead may be provided with individual pothead bodies connected to individual conductors of the power cable. The pothead bodies are held with respect to each other by a plate structure which may be readily secured to a submersible motor of the electric submersible pumping system. If splices are formed along the power cable, individual potheads may be secured to conductor ends of the sections of power cable. The conductor ends are then inserted into corresponding individual adapters in a manner forming a secure and sealed connection.
Electrical connector for oilfield operations
An electrical connector is provided that includes a plurality of electric cables. A first adapter is configured to receive the electrical cables. The first adapter protects the electrical cables and allows for an electrical connection between the electrical cables and a plurality of electrical pins. A second adapter is coupled to the first adapter. The second adapter allows for an electrical connection between the electrical pins and a plurality of electrical terminals. A cable kit is provided that is at least partially housed within the second adapter. The cable kit has a plurality of projections extending therefrom. An insulator body is coupled to the second adapter. The insulator body includes a plurality of openings. Each of the openings has a tapered end portion configured to receive a corresponding one of the plurality of projections of the cable kit to form a mechanical seal with the cable kit.
TAPERED STRING PULSE POWER ROCK EXCAVATION SYSTEM
Systems and methods for drilling a wellbore include delivering electrical energy to a downhole end of the wellbore. A tapered drill string, with larger drill pipes connected in an up-hole portion with a turbine and an electrical generator and a smaller drill pipes coupled in downhole portion may be used to deliver the electrical power. A turbine and generator may be sufficiently sized to harvest the necessary hydraulic energy and safely operated in a subterranean environment. An electrode carried by the downhole portion of the drill string is electrically coupled to the generator through the downhole portion of the drill string.
Instrumented coupling electronics
An compact instrumented downhole coupling that includes a carrier and a set of sensors and electronics that are installed within the carrier. The carrier is a tubular structure having couplings at each end and a bore extending through the carrier from the first end to the second end, forming a carrier wall between the bore and the exterior surface of the carrier. The bore and couplings are offset from a central axis of the carrier (the axis of the cylindrical outer surface of the carrier), resulting in a thicker portion of the carrier wall on one side of the carrier. Cavities are formed (e.g., by drilling holes) within the thicker portion of the carrier wall. One or more sensors and corresponding electronics are then positioned within the cavities, so that the carrier wall itself forms a housing for the sensors and electronics.
DEVICE FOR TRANSFERRING DATA AND/OR POWER IN A DERRICK OR IN A HANDLING WINCH
A device for transmitting data and/or power from a rotating part, for example a pipe handler, to a non-rotating part, for example a top drive, of a drilling rig or a workover rig has at least one slip ring with at least one sliding contact in contact therewith. The device includes a first ring and a second ring. The first ring and the second ring delimit a closed area. The slip ring(s) and the sliding contact(s) is/are arranged within the closed area.
TRANSMISSION LINE TENSION ANCHOR FOR DRILL STRING COMPONENTS
An apparatus for retaining a transmission line within a drill string component includes a drill string component comprising a bore having an internal diameter. A slot having a shoulder is formed in the internal surface to receive an electromagnetic transmission line. A tension anchor is configured to be attached to the electromagnetic transmission line. The tension anchor comprises an inner sleeve configured to be crimped onto an outer diameter of the electromagnetic transmission line, and an outer sleeve configured to be coupled with the inner sleeve. The outer sleeve comprises an electrical connector device configured to be electrically coupled with the electromagnetic transmission line. The tension anchor is further configured to be received in the slot in engagement with the shoulder.
INTELLIGENT DRILLING RISER TELEMETRY SYSTEM
An intelligent drilling riser telemetry system includes a mud pulse telemetry transmitter deployed in a drill string. At least one annular pressure sensor is deployed on a drilling riser and is configured to sense mud pulse telemetry signals in an annular region thereof. A surface processor is in electronic communication with the annular pressure sensor via an electrical transmission line that extends along a length of the drilling riser from the annular pressure sensor to the drilling rig. The processor is configured to decode a transmitted mud pulse telemetry signal.
Weight module for use in wellbore tool string
Disclosed embodiments relate to weight modules for use in a wellbore tool string. In some embodiments, the weight module may comprise a conductive body, extending in an axial direction, and an insulating cover. The conductive body may be configured to fit within a hollow interior of a weight module housing, and the insulating cover may be configured to electrically isolate the conductive body from the weight module housing. In some embodiments, the conductive body may have a first contact portion, provided at a first end of the conductive body, and a second contact portion, provided at a second end of the conductive body, with the first contact portion in electrical communication with the second contact portion through the conductive body.
Magnetically isolating feedthrough connector
A bulkhead connector configured to be positioned within a tool body of a completion or intervention tool for use in a wellbore, and to provide a pressure and fluid seal between an area or a compartment within the tool body where one or more downhole tools are located and any fluid(s) present in the wellbore. The bulkhead connector includes one or more electrical switches positioned on the “low pressure” or tool side of the bulkhead connector, the electrical switches configured to be actuated by magnetic force(s) provided by one or more magnetic elements positioned on the “high pressure” or fluid side of the bulkhead connector. The bulkhead connector including electrical contact(s) that extend through the bulkhead connector that may be connected and disconnected from leads utilizing the magnetic force(s) provided from the fluid side of the bulkhead connector.
