ALD-THIN LAYER COATING APPLICATIONS FOR SENSING TELEMETRY THROUGH EVANESCENT WAVE INTERACTIONS
Layered coating applications for sensing telemetry are provided. An example method can include depositing, on a surface of a tool, a waveguide including a first layer of low refractive-index material, a second layer of high refractive-index material applied to a surface of the first layer, and a third layer of low refractive-index material applied to a surface of the second layer; configuring an evanescent wave interaction region on the waveguide, the evanescent wave interaction region including the first layer of low refractive-index material, the second layer of high refractive-index material, and an outer layer of low refractive-index material having a reduced thickness; configuring, at a second location of the waveguide, a non-uniformity configured to reflect light; determining characteristics of the reflected light after traveling through the evanescent wave interaction region; and based on the characteristics of light reflected by the non-uniformity, detecting characteristics of an environment of the tool.
Wellhead connector soft landing system and method
Systems and method for providing a soft landing of a wellhead connector onto a subsea wellhead are provided. One such system includes a wellhead connector configured to be coupled to a subsea wellhead, and a soft landing system disposed on a body of the wellhead connector. The soft landing system includes one or more cylinder assemblies coupled to the body of the wellhead connector, and one or more valve assemblies coupled to the body of the wellhead connector. Each cylinder assembly includes a barrel, a rod disposed within the barrel and extending in one direction from the barrel, and a pad attached to an extended end of the rod. The one or more valve assemblies are each fluidly coupled to the one or more cylinder assemblies.
ROTATING AND RECIPROCATING SWIVEL APPARATUS AND METHOD
What is provided is a method and apparatus wherein a swivel can be detachably connected to an annular blowout preventer thereby separating the drilling fluid or mud into upper and lower sections and allowing the fluid to be displaced in two stages, such as while the drill string is being rotated and/or reciprocated. In one embodiment the sleeve or housing can be rotatably and sealably connected to a mandrel. The swivel can be incorporated into a drill or well string and enabling string sections both above and below the sleeve to be rotated in relation to the sleeve. In one embodiment the drill or well string does not move in a longitudinal direction relative to the swivel. In one embodiment, the drill or well string does move longitudinally relative to the sleeve or housing of the swivel.
Pipe connector
A pipe connector. The connector includes a body with opposed connection portions for connecting two pipes. A protective portion extends along at least a portion of an inside surface intermediate the connection portions. The protective portion includes a protective material that is less abrasive to a rod string than the body. An inside diameter of the connector along at least a portion of the protective portion is equal to or narrower than an inside diameter at other portions of the connector for preferentially contacting the rod string with the protective material over other portions of the body. The connector may include an extended gripping portion for gripping with power tongs, and may further include a reinforced portion for increasing resistance of the pipe connector to deformation when threadedly connected with a tubing joint with the connector.
REMOVING WELLBORE COMPLETION COMPONENTS IN A WELLBORE
A bottom hole assembly (BHA) includes a top sub-assembly configured to couple to a downhole conveyance to move into a wellbore that includes completion components secured in the wellbore; a drill bit configured to drill out and remove a first portion of a subset of the completion components; and an expandable reamer including a cutting assembly and configured to adjust between a retracted position in which a diameter of the cutting assembly is less than a diameter of a bore through at least one of the completion components and an activated position in which the diameter of the cutting assembly is greater than the diameter of the bore. The expandable reamer is further configured to remove a second portion of the subset of the completion components in the activated position.
CENTRALIZER
A system has a fin with an upstream end, a downstream end, a wall interface (412), a carrier interface (414) offset from the wall interface (412) in a radially inward direction, and an impact surface (418). The impact surface extends between an upstream end of the wall interface and an upstream end of the carrier interface. The impact surface (418) has a substantially flat portion configured to cause flow stagnation. The fin (306) has a side surface (416) extending between the impact surface (418), the wall interface (412), and the carrier interface. The impact surface (418) is joined to the side surface (416) by an edge profile (420) configured to cause turbulence or separation of the fluid flow from the fin.

Coated oilfield operational components and methods for protecting and extending the service life of oilfield operational components
Coating compositions for coating an oilfield operational component, and related methods, may include in some aspects a coating composition having a trifunctional silane, a silanol, and a filler. The coating composition may be applied to a surface of the oilfield operational component that is configured to be exposed to a fluid. The coating composition may be applied to at least partially cover or coat the surface. The coating composition may be configured to chemically bond with a cured primer composition that includes an epoxy.
Erosion control system
A hydrocarbon extraction system that includes an erosion control system. The erosion control system includes a housing defining a first inlet, a second inlet, and an outlet. The housing receives and directs a flow of a particulate laden fluid between the first inlet and the outlet. A conduit rests within the housing. The conduit changes a direction of the particulate laden fluid and reduces erosion of the housing. The conduit is inserted into the housing through the second inlet. The conduit defines a plurality of apertures between an exterior surface and an interior surface of the conduit. The apertures direct the fluid into a conduit cavity. The conduit guides the fluid entering the conduit cavity to the outlet. The erosion control system excludes a plug and/or a sleeve around or in the conduit.
