Method to Attain Full Annular Coverage During Cementing or Mud Circulation

Methods and systems are directed to the uniform distribution of a fluid through an annulus between a pipe and a wellbore wall, primarily when there is a preferential flow in one side of the annulus relative to another side of the annulus. Generally, the methods and systems involve introducing a first agent into the annulus, wherein the first agent is configured to cause swelling of a cladding on the exterior of the section of the pipe. The swelling reduces flow in the annulus on the side of the pipe with preferential flow so as to reduce the preferential flow on that side of the pipe.

System, method and apparatus for fin cutter for downhole tool

A system for trimming fins on a downhole tool is disclosed. The system includes a jig that mounts to the shaft of the tool. A linear aperture is formed in the jig and has a closed end, an open end, and is sized to axially receive a single fin of the tool. A channel is located on an underside of the jig beneath the aperture. The channel has an inner radius of curvature. The inner radius of curvature is substantially similar to an outer radius of curvature of the shaft. The channel can form a friction lock on the exterior of the shaft and be removably attached to the shaft without fasteners. The channel is arcuate and has a selected arcuate span.

SLIDING STANDOFF ASSEMBLY

Embodiments of the present invention disclose a standoff assembly for a sucker rod used for sucker rod pumps. The assembly includes an annulus body, a hole that passes through the annulus body, the hole configured to permit a sucker rod to translate through the hole, a sliding material component located along the surface of the hole, and a temporary component; wherein upon elimination of the temporary component, the sliding material component interacts with the sucker rod to reduce sliding friction as the sucker rod translates through the assembly.

EXPANDABLE MESHED COMPONENT FOR GUIDING AN UNTETHERED DEVICE IN A SUBTERRANEAN WELL

Embodiments provide an expandable meshed component for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well. The expandable meshed component includes an uphole radial portion, an intermediate radial portion, a downhole radial portion, an outer meshed wall, and an inner meshed wall. The expandable meshed component has a density less than a fluidic component occupying the space. A method for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well includes deploying a compressed expandable meshed component tethered to the untethered measurement device, disconnecting the compressed expandable meshed component and the untethered measurement device, and releasing a sleeve surrounding the compressed expandable meshed component such that the expandable meshed component expands, ascends, and fits into an annulus.

A downhole tool control apparatus includes a control assembly, a stroking assembly, and a pocket sleeve positioned in an outer sub. The control assembly and stroking assembly are independently slidable axially within the outer sub. The control assembly and stroking assembly slide depending on the flow rate of fluid through the downhole tool actuator. The stroking assembly includes a spline barrel having a spline projection positioned within a spline pocket formed in the pocket sleeve. The pocket sleeve and control assembly include one or more ratchet teeth positioned in the pocket sleeve such that as the flow rate is changed between a high and a low flow rate, the spline projection engages the ratchet teeth until an actuated cycle is completed, allowing the downhole tool actuator to move to an actuation position.

Cemented barrier valve protection

A downhole tool component may be deployed in a wellbore such that a flexible portion of the tool component is constrained to a first range of motion. By applying a force to the flexible portion, a flexible carrier material applied around the flexible portion of the tool component may be compressed and collapsible objects carried by the carrier material to be collapsed to permit the flexible portion to move through a second range of motion greater than the first range of motion. Cement in the wellbore may constrain movement of the flexible portion, and an elastomeric sheet may be compressed, and glass spheres carried by the elastomeric sheet may be crushed to create voids through which the flexible portion may move. Closure of a barrier valve may be effected by the operation of an actuator assembly that relies on movement of the flexible portion through the second range of motion.

A steering pad apparatus for a rotary steerable system is provided. The steering pad apparatus comprises a base comprising one or more base lugs, each of the base lugs defining a respective axial hole therein. The apparatus further comprises a steering pad hingedly coupled to the base, the steering pad comprising one or more pad lugs, each said pad lug defining a respective axial hole therein. The one or more pad lugs are coupled to the one or more base lugs such that each of the one or more pad lugs is adjacent to at least one of the one or more base lugs. The apparatus further comprises, for each adjacent base lug and pad lug, a respective one or more bushings received in at least one of: the hole of the pad lug; and the hole of the base lug.

Rotary steerable tool with proportional control valve

A rotary steering tool includes a steering member configured to move between a retracted configuration and an extended configuration. The rotary steering tool also includes a pump configured to pump a fluid, a power source independent of the downhole motor, the power source configured to power the pump, and a piston in fluid communication with the pump. The piston is configured to apply a force to the steering member to move the steering member from the retracted configuration to the extended configuration when the pump pumps the fluid at an operating system pressure. The rotary steering tool includes a controller to operate the pump at a range of operating system pressures, and a variable pressure control valve. The variable pressure control valve adjusts the operating system pressure between the range of operating system pressures to adjust the force applied to the steering member.

SHOCK AND VIBRATION REDUCTION IN DOWNHOLE TOOLS
20230332473 · 2023-10-19 ·

Systems, methods, tools, and kits are used to reducing shocks and vibrations in tools, including downhole drilling tools. In at least some embodiments, shock and vibration reduction can be enhanced within tools that include an annular chassis within a collar. Existing locations where a gap exists are identified, and clamps, alignment features, joints, or other components can be modified or included to reduce the gap between the chassis and the collar. This includes on tool in which the chassis includes a flow tube or other tool with an axis that is offset from the axis of the chassis. Minimizing the gap can include providing three-point contact, which stabilizes the internal component within the collar. In a downhole environment, a downhole tool that includes the collar and chassis can perform a drilling or other downhole operation, and the internal vibration within the collar is reduced.

A technique facilitates control over the positioning of a well tool in a wellbore or other type of borehole. A well tool is combined with a centralizer system. The centralizer system has a plurality of extension members which are oriented to extend outwardly, e.g. radially outwardly, from the well tool. The extension members of the plurality of extension members are controllable to enable controlled positioning of the well tool within the borehole. The extension members may be actuated to centralize the well tool along a desired borehole axis.
