A housing of a coupling feature of the circulation management system is configured to extend over a box end of a pipe element. A seal disposed within the housing is configured to engage with a face of the box end. A force-application feature is configured to force the seal against the face of the box end to establish a sealed engagement between the circulation management system and the pipe element. A flow path of the circulation management system extends through the housing and the seal, wherein the flow path facilitates fluid flow into the pipe element from the circulation management system when the sealed engagement is established. A port to the flow path is configured to couple with a fluid flow supply feature.

Techniques for operating a tubular running tool system include communicating, using a controller, one or more sensors coupled to a tubular running tool during a tubular running operation; identifying, with the controller, a first input from one or more sensors that is associated with a weight of one or more tubular members suspended from the tubular running tool during the tubular running operation; identifying, with the controller, a second input from the one or more sensors that is associated with a position of the tubular running tool relative to a reference location during the tubular running operation; based on at least one of the first or second inputs, determining, with the controller, an operation for the tubular running tool; and based on the determination, transmitting, with the controller, a signal to an actuator of the tubular running tool to perform the operation of the tubular running tool.

Slant drill rig tong cart

A drill rig tong cart is disclosed. The tong cart can include a base portion configured to interface with a drill rig. In addition, the tong cart can include a tong carriage supported by the base portion and configured to interface with a tong for coupling and uncoupling tubulars. The tong carriage can be movable relative to the base portion to alternately position the tong in an engaged position and a disengaged position relative to the tubulars.

A threaded connection make up monitoring system includes an acoustic emission transducer operatively connected to one positioned to capture an acoustic signature associated with forming the threaded connection between a first member and a second member. A controller is operatively coupled to the acoustic emission transducer. The controller is operable to receive a signal from the acoustic emission transducer embodying the acoustic signature. The controller is operable to output a signal indicating whether the acoustic signature represents a properly made up threaded connection of the first member and the second member or whether the acoustic signature represents an improperly made up threaded connection of the first member and the second member.

Drill rod tallying system and method
09719314 · 2017-08-01 · ·

An apparatus and method automatically tally drill string rods for use with a drilling machine. The machine comprises a rack and a rotary drive configured for longitudinal displacement between first and second longitudinal positions. A sensor system is configured to monitor the machine to detect a clamping force applied to rotationally immobilize the drill string and to detect a break-out torque generated by the rotary drive, detect a first longitudinal position of the rotary drive whereat the break-out torque is generated, and detect a second longitudinal position of the rotary drive whereat a make-up torque is generated by the rotary drive. A controller is configured to prevent release of the clamping force until the make-up torque is detected, and automatically enable release of the clamping force after the make-up torque is detected and, concordantly, to update a drill rod tally only when the first and second longitudinal positions are different.

Surface platform for use with surface bops and high-pressure risers

A mudline closure device is lowered between tensioners coupled to a deck of a vessel or rig onto a subsea wellhead. A tensioner platform is then attached to the tensioners. The tensioner platform includes a platform opening having an inner diameter through which an emergency disconnect system may pass. The tensioner platform also includes rotation bearings secured in the platform opening. A split support includes outer surfaces disposed along its circumference. The outer surfaces are seated on the rotation bearings. The split support includes a support opening having an inner diameter through which a marine riser may pass. The split support also includes a landing shoulder secured in the support opening to suspend a surface blowout preventer to the deck. As the vessel or rig changes direction, the split support rotates relative to the tensioner platform without imparting excessive torsion on the marine riser.
