A SELECTIVELY ACTIVATABLE DOWNHOLE TOOL
A tool comprises a tool body having a bore, a secondary chamber within the tool body, a flow port between the bore and the secondary chamber; a cover component within the bore moveable between at least two positions along the length of the bore, and a control arrangement connected to control movement of the cover component within the bore. The control arrangement comprises a moveable piston and a guide component, one of which has a track and the other has a protruding element received in the track. In a first position, the cover component covers an entrance to the flow port, so that fluid flowing along the bore may not flow into the flow port. In a second position, the cover component does not cover the entrance to the flow port, so that fluid flowing along the bore may flow through the flow port and into the secondary chamber.
WELL TOOL ANCHOR AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
An anchor for securing a well tool can include a longitudinally extending central axis, an outwardly extendable grip member, and a mechanical linkage including multiple pivotably connected links. The links pivot relative to each other in a plane laterally offset from the central axis. A method of anchoring a well tool can include flowing a fluid through an anchor connected to the well tool, thereby outwardly extending a grip member into contact with a well surface, and applying a tensile force to the anchor, thereby increasingly biasing the grip member against the well surface and securing the well tool relative to the well surface. A method of anchoring a tubing cutter in a tubular string can include applying a tensile force from an anchor to the tubular string, and cutting the tubular string while the tensile force is applied from the anchor to the tubular string.

Method and apparatus for providing a plug with a deformable expandable continuous ring creating a fluid barrier
A plug assembly includes an expandable assembly and a locking ring. The expandable assembly is adapted to be deformed radially over the locking ring. The plug assembly is used with an untethered object, which is adapted to contact an inside surface of the plug assembly and, using well fluid pressure, to apply forces to the plug assembly. The forces cause further radial deformation of the expandable assembly, and penetration of an internal surface of the tubing string at least at one point with a gripping portion of the expandable assembly.
Disposable setting tool for wellbore operations
A disposable setting tool includes a housing having a first end, a second end, and an intermediate portion having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a passage. A piston assembly is arranged in the passage. The piston assembly including a first piston portion and a second piston portion that extends axially outwardly of the second end of the housing. The first piston portion includes a first end portion, a second end portion, and an intermediate section having an outer surface portion and an inner surface portion that extends between the first end portion and the second end portion. The inner surface portion defines a pressure passage. An atmospheric chamber is defined between the inner surface of the housing and the outer surface portion of the piston assembly.
Liner hanger and method
A downhole tool includes a mandrel configured to be coupled to a liner, the mandrel defining a first port and a second port, the first and second ports being axially offset from one another and extending radially through a wall of the mandrel, a slips assembly coupled to the mandrel, an outer cylinder received around the mandrel and configured to transmit an axially-directed force onto the slips assembly, and a retaining assembly positioned radially between the mandrel and the outer cylinder. The retaining assembly has a first configuration that prevents the outer cylinder from moving relative to the mandrel, and a second configuration that permits the outer cylinder to move axially along the mandrel and set the slips assembly. The retaining assembly is configured to actuate from the first configuration to the second configuration in response to a pressure in the first port exceeding a pressure in the second port.
Collapsible and retrievable setting apparatus and method of use
A retrievable setting tool includes a collapsible expansion punch formed by sections. Each section includes an external surface that forms a portion of an expansion face of the collapsible expansion punch. Some sections are capable of sliding relative to other sections. As such, the overall shape of the expansion face may be continuous or discontinuous. The retrievable setting tool could be inside a wellbore to set an expandable member, such as a plug assembly, a patch, a liner hanger, or a packer.
Plug setting tool
An apparatus for setting a plug in a borehole penetrating a subsurface formation includes a tool mandrel defining a chamber having a port and a power charge disposed in the chamber for emitting a pressurized gas upon ignition. The apparatus also includes an outer sleeve at least partially surrounding the tool mandrel and defining an annulus between the outer sleeve and the tool mandrel where the annulus is in communication with the port. The apparatus further includes a piston disposed in the annulus and having an outer surface facing uphole within the annulus, the piston being in mechanical communication with a setting sleeve of the plug, wherein displacement of the setting sleeve causes setting of a slip and a seal of the plug.
EXPANDABLE LINER HANGER SYSTEM AND METHODOLOGY
A technique facilitates setting of a liner hanger in a casing or within other tubular structures via a setting tool. The liner hanger may be constructed with an expandable hanger body between fixed ends. The expandable hanger body is formed from a material, e.g. metal, sufficiently ductile to undergo plastic deformation as it is expanded into engagement with a surrounding casing or other tubing. The expandable hanger body is expanded via fluid delivered under high pressure by the setting tool. The setting tool has a pressure booster to achieve the desired high pressure. The pressure booster may be in the form of a multi-diameter piston constructed to establish the desired high pressure during a single stroke.
Method and apparatus for setting downhole plugs and other objects in wellbores
A wireline conveyed, gas driven setting tool configured to set downhole tools including, without limitation, frac plugs, bridge plugs, cement retainers and packers. The setting tool is functioned by selectively igniting a power charge inside of a firing head. As the power charge burns, it generates gas that acts upon a piston area to stroke the setting tool. A dampening media, as well an optimized flow area at or near the distal end of the setting tool, act to slow the setting stroke.
