Bearing assemblies, apparatuses, and related methods of manufacture
In an embodiment, a bearing assembly may include a support ring to which one or more superhard bearing elements may be mounted. The support ring may include one or more relief features configured to reduce residual stresses in the superhard bearing elements that are induced by brazing the superhard bearing elements to the support ring, operational loads, other processes, or combinations of the foregoing. Reducing the residual stresses in the superhard bearing elements may help prevent damage to the superhard bearing elements. The bearing assembly may be used in subterranean drilling systems and/or other types of systems.
Extended reach power track tool used on coiled tubing
A traction tool is operable with fluid flow from coiled tubing for use in a wellbore. The traction tool includes a mandrel, a driver, at least one piston, and a motor. The driver is rotatably disposed on the mandrel and can be movable between retracted and extended conditions when the at least one piston is actuated. The driver in the extended condition is configured to engage inside the wellbore. The piston is adjacent to the driver and is actuated by the fluid flow from the mandrel. The motor is also actuated by the fluid flow from the mandrel. The motor imparts rotation to the piston and the drive, which can be supported by bearings on the tool's mandrel. Tracks on the driver arranged at an angle transverse to a longitudinal axis of the tool allow the rotating driver to spiral inside the wellbore and advance the traction tool.
Apparatus for brazing radial bearings and related methods
Apparatuses and methods are provided for manufacturing bearing assemblies. In accordance with one embodiment, a fixture is provided for use in brazing bearing elements to a bearing ring. The fixture comprises a substantially annular body and at least one or more force-applying mechanism associated with the annular body. The force applying mechanisms include a push rod disposed within a channel that is formed in the annular body, the push rod being displaceable within the channel. A biasing member is configured to bias the push rod in a radial direction relative to the annular body. In one embodiment, a plurality of force-applying mechanisms are circumferentially spaced about the substantially annular body. In one embodiment, the push rods extend radially inwardly from a peripheral surface of the body, while in another embodiment the push rods extend radially outwardly from peripheral surface of the body.
Bearing elements, bearing apparatuses including same, and related methods
Bearing apparatuses including contacting bearing surfaces comprising superhard materials are disclosed. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to bearings including polycrystalline diamond inserts or compacts defining a plurality of surfaces that move relative to one another and contact one another. For example, apparatuses may include radial bearings, or other bearings including arcuate bearing surfaces that more in relation to one another, without limitation. In one embodiment, a superhard bearing element may comprise a superhard table (e.g., polycrystalline diamond) forming an arcuate bearing surface. Further, such a superhard bearing element may comprise a chamfer formed about at least a portion of a periphery of the arcuate bearing surface. Bearing apparatuses including such bearing elements and various mechanical systems are disclosed.
Bearing assemblies and apparatuses including superhard bearing elements
A bearing assembly includes a support ring circumferentially surrounding a central bearing axis and a plurality of superhard bearing elements coupled to the support ring. Each of the plurality of superhard bearing elements has a base, a superhard bearing surface, and an element side surface extending between the base and the superhard bearing surface. The superhard bearing surface has a partial-ellipsoidal surface shape. A bearing apparatus includes an inner bearing assembly and an outer bearing assembly. A subterranean drilling system includes an output shaft operably coupled to a bearing apparatus.
Wellbore satellite launcher system
A satellite launcher having a body comprising a planar surface and an axial bore; a plurality of satellite tubes, each satellite tube for releasably retaining a satellite and having an open end for facing the planar surface; a first and a second track system, each comprising: a track extending along the planar surface through the axial bore with a track opening at the axial bore, a magazine slideably attached to the track, the magazine for detachably retaining satellite tubes, and a drive system for moving the first magazine along the first track. The track of the second track system angularly offset from the track of the first track system relative to the axial bore, the second track defining a second track opening at the axial bore. When one of the satellite tubes is aligned with the axial bore, the satellite contained therein is free to drop out.
SYSTEMS INCLUDING BEARING ASSEMBLY HAVING ENHANCED SELECTED SUPPORT FOR NONUNIFORM LOADS
Embodiments of the invention are directed to bearing assemblies configured to effectively carry nonuniform loads, bearing apparatuses including such bearing assemblies, and methods of operating such bearing assemblies and apparatuses. In an embodiment, under some operational conditions, one or more portions of the bearing assemblies and bearing apparatus may be preferentially loaded, such as to carry preferentially higher loads (e.g., radial and/or axial loads) than other portion(s) of the bearing assemblies and bearing apparatus.
Polycrystalline diamond, polycrystalline diamond compacts, methods of making same, and applications
Embodiments of the invention relate to polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDC) exhibiting enhanced diamond-to-diamond bonding. In an embodiment, a PDC includes a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) table bonded to a substrate. At least a portion of the PCD table includes a plurality of diamond grains defining a plurality of interstitial regions. The plurality of interstitial regions includes a metal-solvent catalyst. The plurality of diamond grains exhibit an average grain size of about 30 m or less. The plurality of diamond grains and the metal-solvent catalyst collectively exhibit an average electrical conductivity of less than about 1200 S/m. Other embodiments are directed to PCD, employing such PCD, methods of forming PCD and PDCs, and various applications for such PCD and PDCs in rotary drill bits, bearing apparatuses, and wire-drawing dies.
