HYDRAULICALLY ACTIVATED SETTING TOOL AND METHOD

A sub connects a gun string to a hydraulically activated setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well. The sub includes a housing that prevents a well fluid from entering inside the housing; a plug that covers a hole made in a wall of the housing; and an explosive mechanism located inside the housing and configured to break the plug to open the hole to achieve fluid communication between an outside and the inside of the sub.

Downhole force generating tool

The disclosure of this application is directed to a downhole tool comprising a central element/member and a sleeve that is rotatably and orbitally disposed around the central element/member. The sleeve rotates and orbits around the central element/member responsive to fluid flowing through the downhole tool. The disclosure is also related to a method of advancing the downhole tool in a well by flowing fluid through the tool.

Pressure balanced setting tool

A system including a downhole device coupled to a pressure balanced setting tool. The setting tool may be pressure balanced to lock a setting piston in place as the system is deployed into a well. That is, in spite of downhole well pressures, no substantial differential may emerge between the setting piston and the annular space of the well adjacent the system. Thus, the setting piston may remain locked in place until triggered for setting. This may include breaching a rupture disc of another piston to disrupt hydraulic communication between the setting piston and the annular space. This allows subsequent triggering, for example through another breach of a rupture disc defining a volumetric chamber, to take place in a manner that allows stroking of the setting piston. In this way, the setting tool may be utilized to achieve setting of the downhole device.

LINEAR ACTUATOR WITH HYDRAULIC FEED THROUGH
20200024918 · 2020-01-23 · ·

Providing hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic pump (64) to a tool (3) connected to respective first and second ends (10a, 10b) of a wellbore linear actuator and such an actuator. Where the actuator has a double acting cylinder (10) with a cylinder head (14), a cylinder cap (15) opposite the cylinder head (14), a piston head (40), and a piston rod (41). The piston head (40) separates the cylinder (10) into a first chamber (12) and a second chamber (13), and the piston rod (41) extends out of the second chamber through the cylinder cap (15). The double acting cylinder (10) has first and second ends (10a, 10b), and the double acting cylinder (10) further comprises a feed fluid passage between the first and second ends (10a, 10b), wherein the feed fluid passage comprises a first fluid line (73) through the piston head (40) and the piston rod (41), the first chamber (12), and a second fluid line (77) through the cylinder head (14).

Pressure-controlled downhole actuators

A single-use pressure-controlled actuator for downhole well tools or mechanisms is provided. The actuator is configured for control of activation/deactivation by agency of wellbore fluid pressure (e.g., pressure levels of drilling fluid or drilling mud in the wellbore). The actuator is further configured for hydraulic actuation by agency of the wellbore fluid. The actuator comprises a plunger displaceably mounted on a sealed cylinder body, with a non-reclosable frangible device closing off wellbore fluid access to an interior of the cylinder body. The frangible device is configured for automatic in response to exposure of wellbore fluid pressures exceeding a predetermined activation threshold. Failure of the frangible device causes exposure of the plunger to the wellbore fluid, resulting in actuated movement of the plunger by hydraulic action of the wellbore fluid.

RELEASE TOOL

A release tool for connecting a workstring to a toolstring. The release tool will be used for contingency if the toolstring gets stuck downhole and hopefully rarely would be actuated. In the present disclosure, the release tool is not broken or destroyed, but is simply disconnected into two parts using the propellent of a low explosive combustion element. This element produces gasses that drive the disconnecting process. The gasses are directed to press a tubular piston to translate from a first position where a wedging portion of the tubular piston is inside a lock ring bracing the lock ring in a locking configuration to a second position where the wedging portion is out of contact with the lock ring. The lock ring is then able to slip free from one or more locking grooves releasing the upper portion of the release tool from the lower.

Control line activated tubing disconnect latch system

A method and apparatus are disclosed that use a control line to expand a piston that shears pins to disconnect a latching system for wellbore operations.

Self-bleeding setting tool and method

A setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well includes a housing having a floating piston that separates a pressure chamber from a hydraulic chamber; and a plug that is removably located in a through passage of the floating piston. The through passage fluidly connects the pressure chamber to the hydraulic chamber, and the plug prevents a fluid to move from the pressure chamber to the hydraulic chamber or from the hydraulic chamber to the pressure chamber when attached to the floating piston.

Resettable telescoping plug retrieving tool

A plug retrieval tool includes a mandrel lowerable into a wellbore. A retrieval head is coupled to the mandrel for selectively latching onto a plug. A shroud is telescopically coupled to the mandrel about the retrieval head and moveable repeatedly between an extended position below the retrieval head for displacing debris on the plug and a retracted position for moving the retrieval head closer to the plug to latch onto the plug. A resistance mechanism provides a resistance to moving the shroud each time the shroud is moved toward the retracted position.

Metal-to-metal annulus packoff retrieval tool system and method

A wellbore system includes an adapter configured to couple to a downhole component. The wellbore system also includes a retrieval tubular, having a bore extending therethrough. The wellbore system further includes a piston assembly coupled to the retrieval tubular, wherein the bore is in fluid communication with a cavity of the piston assembly. The wellbore system includes a stem configured to couple to a casing section, the casing section being supported by a hanger. The wellbore system also includes a sleeve forming at least a portion of the piston assembly, the sleeve configured to couple to the adapter such that, responsive to a force applied by the piston at the casing section, the sleeve applies an upward force to the adapter.
