FIRING HEAD ASSEMBLY, WELL COMPLETION DEVICE WITH A FIRING HEAD ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF USE
A firing head assembly for use with a perforating gun is described. The firing head assembly includes a tubular housing, first and second pistons, and a compressible member arranged within a lumen of the tubular housing and positioned between the first and second pistons. According to an aspect, the assembly includes a plurality of upper locking arms and lower locking arms that engage with locking members formed in the tubular housing. The firing head assembly further includes upper and lower shear washers arranged at the second opening of the tubular body, in a sandwich type configuration with respect to the second piston. Pressures within the firing head assembly may be adjusted to activate the firing head assembly to either trigger an explosive reaction or to not trigger the explosive reaction.
Igniter and ignition device for downhole setting tool power charge
A downhole setting tool having a first housing, a second housing having a chamber connected to the first housing, a power charge positioned within the chamber, an igniter connected to a portion of the power charge, and an ignition device connected to the igniter. The ignition device is configured to actuate upon receipt of an electrical signal. The ignition device is configured to ignite the igniter. The ignition device may rapidly heat up or apply a voltage or current to the igniter. The igniter is configured to cause the detonation of the power charge to set a device within a wellbore. The igniter may be embedded into the power charge with the ignition device positioned within a cavity in the igniter. The igniter may be a pyrotechnic material or may release high energy heat upon application of voltage or current.
Downhole casing pulling tool
A pulling tool deploys on a workstring to retrieving a well component, such as casing or a liner, stuck downhole. The tool has an anchor, a puller, and an implement. The implement is supported on the end of the puller and engages the component. Hydraulic pressure supplied downhole moves at least one puller piston coupled to the implement along a piston mandrel to pull the implement and component. An anchor mandrel coupled to the workstring and the piston mandrel anchors the pulling tool downhole. The anchor has slips disposed on the anchor mandrel that engage in surrounding casing when an anchor piston disposed on the anchor mandrel is hydraulically actuated with the communicated pressure.
CONTROL LINE ACTIVATED TUBING DISCONNECT LATCH SYSTEM
A method and apparatus are disclosed that use a control line to expand a piston that shears pins to disconnect a latching system for wellbore operations.
ANNULAR PRESSURE ACTIVATED DOWNHOLE TOOL
An annular pressure activated downhole tool has a housing including an outer surface, an inner surface defining a passage, an annular projection projecting into the passage from the inner surface, and an opening. A mandrel extends into the passage. The mandrel has a first end and a second end. A power spring support is detachably connected to the second end of the mandrel in the passage. A power spring is arranged about the mandrel and extends between the power spring support and the annular projection. A trigger housing is arranged in the power spring support. A trigger arranged in the trigger housing selectively engages with the inner surface. The trigger is operable to disengage from the inner surface of the housing, releasing the power spring, and shifting the mandrel along the passage when exposed to a selected annular pressure.
Setting tool
A setting tool includes a barrel piston that is configured to couple to a setting sleeve and defines a working surface and a vent port. An upper mandrel is disposed within the barrel piston and defines a power charge chamber that is configured to receive a power charge and includes an upper threaded portion, a lower internal thread, and a plurality of axial discharge ports disposed circumferentially around the lower internal thread. The plurality of axial discharge ports are in fluid communication at one end with the power charge chamber and at the other end with the working surface of the barrel piston. A lower mandrel has an upper end and a lower end, with the upper end in threaded engagement with the lower internal thread of the upper mandrel, and the lower end configured to couple to a frac plug. The power charge chamber includes an upper chamber and a lower chamber, with the lower chamber shaped to open to be in fluid communication with each of the plurality of axial discharge ports. The barrel piston is configured for axial displacement with respect to the upper mandrel to position the vent port in fluid communication with the power charge chamber.
Eccentric linkage gripper
A gripper mechanism for a downhole tool is disclosed that includes an eccentric linkage mechanism. In operation, an axial force generated by a power section of the gripper expands the linkage mechanism, which applies a radial force to the interior surface of a wellbore or passage. A sliding portion allows the gripper to slide along a surface of the formation in response to the radial force applied to the interior surface of the wellbore or passage.
TRIGGER SYSTEM FOR A DOWNHOLE TOOL
A trigger system for use with a downhole tool. The trigger system may include a first housing forming a first pressure chamber at a first pressure and including a membrane positioned in a wall of the first housing, a piston disposed at least partially within the first housing and shiftable from an initial position to an actuated position to actuate the downhole tool, and a trigger. The trigger may include a second housing sealed against the first housing proximate the membrane to form a second pressure chamber at a second pressure and a rupturing member positioned within the second housing and operable to pierce the membrane to balance the pressures within the first housing and the second housing and shift the piston from the initial position to the actuated position.
RELEASABLE CONNECTION MECHANISM FOR USE WITHIN A WELL
A releasable connection mechanism for use downhole with a tubular member includes a collet, a collet stop, and a ring housing. The collet is configured to engage the tubular member, the collet stop is axially movable with respect to the collet between a disengaged position to not engage the collet and an engaged position to engage the collet, and the ring housing is selectively axially movable with respect to the collet. In the disengaged position, the collet is configured to move with respect to the ring housing to engage the ring housing and prevent the collet from disengaging the tubular member when the collet is tensioned with respect to the tubular member. In the engaged position, the collet is configured to remain axially stationary with respect to the ring housing and disengage the tubular member when the collet is tensioned with respect to the tubular member.
