Sliding electrical connector for multilateral well

Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed allowing relative movement between downhole tools while remaining in electrical communication. In one example, a first tool comprising a first connector body is configured for connecting to a second connector body of a second tool. A sliding connector housing has an electrical strip axially arranged along the connector housing, wherein the first or second connector body is moveably secured to the connector housing in sliding electrical contact with the electrical strip. The first and second connector bodies are releasably connectable to each other, thereby allowing relative movement between the first and second tools via the connector housing while maintaining electrical and fluid communication between the first and second tools.

SINGLE ACTING SNAP RING GUIDE
20210355777 · 2021-11-18 ·

A string guide comprising an upper mandrel, a lower muleshoe guide concentric to a lower portion of the upper mandrel, and an annular fastener internal to the lower muleshoe guide that fastens the lower muleshoe guide to the upper mandrel. When the guide encounters an obstruction (e.g., a packer bore or liner top), the weight of equipment above the lower muleshoe guide elastically deforms the annular fastener which drives the lower muleshoe guide up the upper mandrel. As the lower muleshoe guide travels up the upper mandrel, internal lugs of the muleshoe guide ride a spiral groove on the upper mandrel to rotate the lower muleshoe guide around the upper mandrel.

Articulated Wireline Hole Finder
20220010639 · 2022-01-13 ·

The articulated wireline hole finder is a modular device which attaches to the bottom of a wireline logging tool-string to aid conveyance down irregular shaped and/or deviated boreholes which possess features such as ledges, washouts, and contractions, that might otherwise terminate full descent of the tool-string to the bottom of the borehole and thereby compromise the wireline data acquisition objectives. Elements of the articulated wireline hole finder may include a low friction roller nose assembly and spacer sub, an articulated spring joint, that transfers tool-string weight and directs lateral movement of the roller nose towards hole center, and a pair of five arm centralizers that possess a wide dynamic range.

EXPANDABLE MESHED COMPONENT FOR GUIDING AN UNTETHERED DEVICE IN A SUBTERRANEAN WELL
20220010630 · 2022-01-13 · ·

Embodiments provide an expandable meshed component for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well. The expandable meshed component includes an uphole radial portion, an intermediate radial portion, a downhole radial portion, an outer meshed wall, and an inner meshed wall. The expandable meshed component has a density less than a fluidic component occupying the space. A method for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well includes deploying a compressed expandable meshed component tethered to the untethered measurement device, disconnecting the compressed expandable meshed component and the untethered measurement device, and releasing a sleeve surrounding the compressed expandable meshed component such that the expandable meshed component expands, ascends, and fits into an annulus.

Entering a lateral branch of a wellbore with an assembly

An assembly and a method for entering a lateral branch of a main wellbore through a lateral window with an assembly are described. The assembly includes an arm coupled to a body. The arm positions the body to enter the lateral branch. The assembly includes an actuator to actuate the arm relative to the body. The assembly includes a first sensor, a second sensor, and a controller. The first sensor senses a condition of the arm and transmit the condition of the arm to the controller. The second sensor senses when the assembly is located in the main wellbore or the lateral branch transmits the location to the controller. Responsive to either the first signal or the second signal, the controller actuates the arm relative to the body to position the body to enter the lateral window and determines when the assembly has entered the lateral branch.
