APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SERVICING A STUFFING BOX
20220056996 · 2022-02-24 ·

A maintenance tool apparatus for servicing a stuffing box for a wellhead having an upright arm coupled to a portion of the wellhead at one end and an elongate arm coupled to another end of the upright arm. The elongate arm having a resting end configured to rest on a polish rod of the wellhead. Also, a method for servicing a stuffing box for a wellhead has the steps of: placing a resting end of a maintenance apparatus against a polish rod; uncoupling at least one of a packing gland and a dust cover from a stuffing box; sliding the packing gland and the dust cover along the polish rod above the resting end of the maintenance apparatus; maintaining the position of the packing gland and the dust cover; and repacking the stuffing box.

Locking clamp for a rotating control device

A clamp assembly device for connecting a rotating control device bearing assembly to a main body of a rotating control device. The device includes clamp members configured to retain the bearing assembly in place on the main body, a clamp actuator for driving clamping and unclamping of the clamp members and a lock pin controlled by a lock pin actuator. The lock pin actuator is configured to lock and unlock the clamp assembly device by moving the pin between locked and unlocked positions along an axis substantially parallel with the axis of rotation of the bearing assembly.

Marine diverter system with real time kick or loss detection

The disclosure relates to a system and method for determining whether a kick or loss has occurred from a well in real time, wherein the well has a marine diverter having a rotating control device. The marine diverter system may measure flow rate in real time of a drilling fluid entering the wellbore and provide a means of measuring flow rate of the drilling fluid out of the wellbore and riser. The marine diverter system may further determine displacement and velocity of displacement of rig heave motion in real time and use the foregoing steps, given a known internal diameter of the riser and a known external diameter of a drill pipe, and employing a drilling fluid volume balance equation: (Volumetric flow rate-in)−(Volumetric flow rate-out)−(Change in riser annular Volume per unit time)=X, to determine whether the kick or loss has occurred in real time.

Rotating control device docking station

A system and method is provided for converting a drilling rig between conventional hydrostatic pressure drilling and managed pressure drilling or underbalanced drilling using a docking station housing mounted on a marine riser or bell nipple. This docking station housing may be positioned above the surface of the water. When a removable rotating control device is remotely hydraulically latched with the docking station housing, the system and method allows for interactive lubrication and cooling of the rotating control device, as needed, along with a supply of fluid for use with active seals.

Apparatus and method for stripping solids and fluids from a string used in drilling or servicing wells

Three or more overlapping sealing members arranged circumferentially around a passage in a supporting body form an annular seal around a pipe inserted into the passage.

Polish rod alignment device/stuffing box packing preserver

A polish rod alignment and stabilization device preserves stuffing box packing and protects the polish rod of an oil well sucker rod string by guiding and aligning the polish rod as it reciprocates within the stuffing box thereby reducing lateral motion of the polish rod reciprocates up and down. Embodiments of the invention may also wipe the polish rod of debris as it reciprocates within the device. The alignment device utilizes a rod centralizer to which a stuffing box is made up. The centralizer has a second end to which an alignment barrel depends, either by direct connection or by utilization of a barrel adapter. The alignment barrel is disposed within the uppermost portion of the tubing string of the well.

An RCD includes a housing, a seal assembly package, and a seal tube assembly. The seal tube assembly includes a seal tube, a seal, a first bearing, and a second bearing. The seal is coupled between the first and second bearings. The first bearing includes a flow path between the interior of the seal tube and the annular space between the seal and the seal tube. The SAP includes an SAP outer body positioned within the housing and fluidly sealed thereto. The RCD may include a running tool coupled to the SAP having one or more grippers for engaging a tool string passing through the RCD.

A rainguard device for insertion on top of a stuffing box containment basin, said device comprises: a top portion; a shield; and a base ring; wherein said top portion comprising a flat circular upper section connected at its underside to a neck connected to a lower section; said neck is adapted to be inserted into an aperture present at a top section of the shield; said top portion having a vertical central aperture going therethrough adapted to receive a polish rod; said shield comprising two halves and having a frusto-conical top portion and defining an aperture at the top thereof and having a cylindrical bottom section; said bottom section defining an aperture and adapted to be inserted into the base ring; said base ring comprising two halves each of which comprising: a lower edge adapted for insertion into the inside of said basin; a middle ring portion supporting an inner lip and an outer lip, both inner and outer lips extending updwardly from the middle ring portion and both lips extending around the circumference of the middle ring portion; said inner lip and outer lip defining therebetween a channel adapted to receive an edge of the bottom portion of the shield; and wherein the base ring is adapted to rest on a top edge of the stuffing box containment basin.

DOWNHOLE SWIVEL APPARATUS AND METHOD

What is provided is a method and apparatus which can be detachably connected to an annular blowout preventer thereby separating the drilling fluid or mud into upper and lower sections and allowing the fluid to be displaced in two stages, such as while the drill string is being rotated and/or reciprocated. In one embodiment the sleeve can be rotatably and sealably connected to a mandrel. The swivel can be incorporated into a drill or well string and enabling string sections both above and below the sleeve to be rotated in relation to the sleeve. In one embodiment the drill or well string does not move in a longitudinal direction relative to the swivel. In one embodiment, the drill or well string does move longitudinally relative to the sleeve of the swivel.
