METHOD TO CREATE A PERMANENT PLUG BY INDUCING MOVEMENT IN CAPROCK
A process is directed at plugging a wellbore, wherein the wellbore has a portion extending at least partially through a caprock composed of salt rock. The process includes applying a barrier in the wellbore at or above the caprock. Thereafter, the process includes a step of promoting creep such that the salt rock in the caprock creeps into the wellbore to create a salt-rock plug in the wellbore, and hence, closes off the portion of the wellbore above the salt-rock plug from fluid flow communication with the portion of the wellbore below the salt-rock plug.
DOWNHOLE SEGREGATION FOR WIRELINE FORMATION FLUID SAMPLING
The disclosure provides for a method for sampling fluid from a subterranean formation that is intersected by a wellbore. The method includes performing an initial draw-down at a target interval in the wellbore to pump fluid from the subterranean formation with a 3D radial probe. The method includes isolating the target interval of the wellbore with a packer and providing a residence time within a dead volume of the packer to allow fluid therein to separate into hydrocarbon and water phases. The method includes pumping a sample of the hydrocarbon into a sample chamber while pumping a remainder of the fluid into the wellbore, and testing the sample to determine a hydrocarbon content of the sample.
CUP TESTER UNIT
Cup tester unit comprising a BOP test plug insertable into a casing head housing, for sealing a space of drilling systems above the BOP test plug; a hanger connected to the lower end of the BOP test plug; and a test cup assembled at the outer circumference of the hangers, for sealing with the inner surface of a well casing. Further, a method of testing a of drilling systems and a connection between a well casing and a casing head housing is claimed.
Dissolvable frac plug adapter, method for measuring dynamic downhole temperature, and method for fabricating dissolvable frac plug
A dissolvable frac plug adapter includes an adapter body and a temperature acquisition and recording apparatus, where the temperature acquisition and recording apparatus is fixed in the adapter body. The adapter body is configured to connect a setting tool and a dissolvable frac plug. The temperature acquisition and recording apparatus is configured to acquire and record an ambient temperature at which the adapter body is located. A method for measuring a dynamic downhole temperature using the dissolvable frac plug adapter and a method for fabricating a dissolvable frac plug using the dissolvable frac plug adapter are provided to measure the dynamic downhole ambient temperature during pumping of the dissolvable frac plug, which features convenient operation and low cost, provides a basis for material selection and design of an ideal dissolvable frac plug for a region, and facilitates fabrication of the ideal dissolvable frac plug for the region.
EXPANDABLE PACKER WITH ACTIVATABLE SEALING ELEMENT
An expandable packer includes an activatable sealing element locatable in a borehole having a wall and activatable with a reactive fluid. The sealing element includes a swellable metal capable of reacting with the reactive fluid to form a swelled metal and a mechanical element separating the reactive fluid from the swellable metal and operable to cause the reactive fluid to contact the swellable metal such that swellable metal expands into sealing engagement with the wall. A method of forming a seal in a borehole comprising a wall includes locating an expandable packer comprising an activatable sealing element within the borehole, using a mechanical element of the activatable sealing element to cause a reactive fluid to contact a swellable metal, and expanding the swellable metal into sealing engagement with the wall by reacting the swellable metal with the reactive fluid.
Whipstock assemblies and methods for using the same
A whipstock assembly including a main body defining an axial direction extending through the main body, a circumferential direction, and a radial direction transverse to the axial direction, and a ramp body pivotally coupled to the main body, the ramp body defining a ramp surface that is oriented transverse to the radial direction, and where the ramp body is movable between a retracted position and an extended position, where the ramp surface is further from the main body in the axial direction in the extended position as compared to the retracted position and the ramp body is rotatable with respect to the main body about the circumferential direction.
