ROTARY STEERABE TOOL WITH PROPORTIONAL CONTROL VALVE
A rotary steering tool includes a steering member configured to move between a retracted configuration and an extended configuration. The rotary steering tool also includes a pump configured to pump a fluid, a power source independent of the downhole motor, the power source configured to power the pump, and a piston in fluid communication with the pump. The piston is configured to apply a force to the steering member to move the steering member from the retracted configuration to the extended configuration when the pump pumps the fluid at an operating system pressure. The rotary steering tool includes a controller to operate the pump at a range of operating system pressures, and a variable pressure control valve. The variable pressure control valve adjusts the operating system pressure between the range of operating system pressures to adjust the force applied to the steering member.
ELECTRO-RESPONSIVE HYDROGEL FOR RESERVOIR AND DOWNHOLE APPLICATION
Electro-responsive hydrogel particles are flowed into a first wellbore formed in a subterranean formation. An electric circuit is established between the first wellbore and a second wellbore formed in the subterranean formation. An electric current is applied through the electric circuit, thereby exposing the electro-responsive hydrogel particles to an electric field and causing at least one of swelling or aggregation of the electro-responsive hydrogel particles to form a flow-diverting plug within the subterranean formation. Water is flowed into the first wellbore to increase hydrocarbon production from the second wellbore.
Telemetrically Operable Packers
A down-hole packer is provided for positioning in a wellbore to establish a seal with a surrounding surface. The packer includes a sealing element that is responsive to compression by a setting piston to radially expand into the wellbore. An actuator is provided to longitudinally move the setting piston in response to a telemetry signal received by the down-hole packer. The actuator can include a hydraulic pump, an electromechanical motor or valves operable to control hydraulic energy to apply a down-hole force to the setting piston.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR WELL OPERATIONS
A method for modifying a return fluid in a wellbore comprising disposing at least one valve along a drill pipe section of a drill string in the wellbore. At least one parameter of interest is determined at at least one location along the wellbore. At least one valve is controllably actuated to discharge at least a portion of at least one fluid from inside the drill string to an annulus in the wellbore to modify a local property of the return fluid in the annulus based at least in part on the measured parameter of interest.
MAGNETIC SENSOR ASSEMBLY FOR ACTUATING A WELLBORE VALVE
A sensor assembly for actuating a valve comprising: a magnet; and a sensor for the magnet, wherein a tool that is positioned adjacent to the magnet alters the magnetic field of the magnet, wherein the sensor detects the alteration of the magnetic field, and when the sensor detects the alteration, then the sensor actuates a valve to open or close. A method of actuating a valve in a wellbore comprising: positioning the sensor assembly within the wellbore; and running the tool into the wellbore. A system for actuating a valve, the system comprising: a wellbore; the valve; a tool positioned within the casing; and the sensor assembly, wherein the sensor assembly detects the presence or absence of the tool at the location of the magnet, and wherein the sensor assembly actuates the valve to open or close based on the location of the tool.
WIRELESS ACTIVATION OF WELLBORE TOOLS
Systems and methods are disclosed for a well tool. The well tool system includes a receiving tool including two ends positioned in a wellbore tubular in a predetermined orientation. The receiving tool is configured to transition from an inactive state to an active state in response to a triggering signal. The well tool system further includes a transmitting tool at a surface and proximate to the receiving tool. The transmitting tool is configured to wirelessly transmit the triggering signal to the receiving tool using inductive coupling based on the predetermined orientation.
Downhole communication and control system and method for non-sequential downhole operations
A downhole communication and control system configured for use in a non-sequential order of treating a borehole, the system includes a string having at least three ports including first, second, and third longitudinally spaced ports arranged sequentially in a downhole to uphole manner in the string; at least three frac sleeve systems including first, second, and third frac sleeve systems arranged sequentially in a downhole to uphole manner in the string and arranged to open and close the first, second, and third ports, respectively, each frac sleeve system having self-powered, electronically triggered first and second sleeves; and, communication signals to trigger the first, second, and third frac sleeve systems into moving the first and second sleeves to open and close the ports. Also included is a method of completing downhole operations in a non-sequential order.
Hydrocarbon flowline corrosion inhibitor overpressure protection
The disclosure describes hydrocarbon flowline corrosion inhibitor overpressure protection. Such a protection system includes a fluid flow pathway fluidically coupled to a corrosion inhibitor injection pump that injections corrosion inhibitor into a hydrocarbon carrying flowline. When the injection pump pressure exceeds a threshold flow pressure, the corrosion inhibitor is flowed through a first branch of the fluid flow pathway to relieve the excess pressure. The first branch is fluidically isolated from a second branch. When a rupture disc in the first branch fails, then the corrosion inhibitor is diverted to flow through the second branch and the first branch is isolated from the corrosion inhibitor flow.
Electrical power storage for downhole tools
A method of activating a downhole tool can include configuring the tool having an electrical power source, an electrical load, control circuitry which controls the electrical load, and a switch which selectively permits current flow between the power source and the circuitry, and generating electricity, thereby causing the switch to permit current flow between the power source and the circuitry. A downhole tool can include an electrical power source, an electrical load, control circuitry, a switch which selectively permits current flow between the power source and the circuitry, and a generator. Another method can include displacing a fluid and/or an object at the tool, generating electricity in response to the displacing, permitting current flow between an electrical power source and a control circuitry in response to the generating and, after the permitting and in response to detection of a predetermined signal, the circuitry causing activation of an electrical load.
