ADVANCED LATERAL ACCESSIBILITY, SEGMENTED MONITORING, AND CONTROL OF MULTI-LATERAL WELLS
Methods and systems for producing fluids from a subterranean well include forming the subterranean well having at least one lateral wellbore. The lateral wellbore is completed with a lateral production tubular. The lateral wellbore is subdivided into subsequent lateral segments. Each lateral segment is defined by a downhole lateral packer and an uphole lateral packer that seal an annular lateral space defined by an outer diameter surface of the lateral production tubular and an inner diameter surface of the lateral wellbore. A main production tubular extends into the subterranean well, the main production tubular including a lateral access system that provides selective access to the lateral wellbore. A flow of a fluid within the lateral segment is controlled with an inflow control device of the lateral segment. The inflow control device is mechanically adjusted by a tool that is delivered to the inflow control device through the lateral access system.
TWO-PART DRILLING/RUNNING AND ACTIVATION TOOL
Provided is a downhole tool, a well system, and a method for forming a well system. The downhole tool, in at least one aspect, includes a two part drilling and running tool, the two part drilling and running tool including a conveyance, a smaller assembly coupled to an end of the conveyance, and a larger bit assembly slidably coupled to the conveyance, the smaller assembly and larger bit assembly configured to slidingly engage one another downhole to form a combined bit assembly. The downhole tool, in accordance with this aspect, further includes a whipstock assembly coupled to the two part drilling and running tool using a coupling mechanism, and a hydraulically actuated anchoring assembly coupled to a downhole end of the whipstock assembly. The downhole tool, in accordance with this aspect, additionally includes a multilateral junction seal assembly coupled between the whipstock assembly and the hydraulically actuated anchoring assembly.
Borehole junction support by consolidation of formation materials
A system for supporting a borehole junction includes a device configured to deploy a material in a solid state to a downhole location proximate to the borehole junction, and a heat source configured to apply heat to the material to a temperature sufficient to liquefy the material. The liquified material is configured to flow into a formation region adjacent to the borehole junction and consolidate the formation region.
Multilateral junction with wellbore isolation
A wellbore isolation system includes a junction positioned at an intersection of a first wellbore and a second wellbore, and a deflector disposed in the junction such that a path into the first leg of the junction is obstructed and engaged with the first leg of the junction to form a fluid and pressure tight seal. The junction includes a first leg extending downhole into the first wellbore, and a second leg extending downhole into the second wellbore.
MULTILATERAL JUNCTION HAVING EXPANDING METAL SEALED AND ANCHORED JOINTS
Provided is a multilateral junction. The multilateral junction, in one aspect, includes a y-block. The multilateral junction additionally includes a mainbore leg coupled to the y-block, the mainbore leg defining a second overlapping space, and a lateral bore leg coupled to the y-block, the lateral bore leg defining a third overlapping space. The multilateral junction, in this aspect, additionally includes an expanded metal joint located in at least a portion of the second overlapping space or the third overlapping space, the expanded metal joint comprising a metal that has expanded in response to hydrolysis.
Sliding electrical connector for multilateral well
Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed allowing relative movement between downhole tools while remaining in electrical communication. In one example, a first tool comprising a first connector body is configured for connecting to a second connector body of a second tool. A sliding connector housing has an electrical strip axially arranged along the connector housing, wherein the first or second connector body is moveably secured to the connector housing in sliding electrical contact with the electrical strip. The first and second connector bodies are releasably connectable to each other, thereby allowing relative movement between the first and second tools via the connector housing while maintaining electrical and fluid communication between the first and second tools.
Multilateral Acid Stimulation Process
A main well bore is drilled. The main well bore is completed and stimulated. The main well bore is sealed. A lateral well bore is drilled off the main well bore. A junction that allows communication with the lateral well bore and that connects the main well bore is inserted. The lateral well bore is stimulated through the junction. The main well bore is unsealed, allowing comingled flow from the main bore and the lateral bore.
BOREHOLE JUNCTION SUPPORT BY CONSOLIDATION OF FORMATION MATERIALS
A system for supporting a borehole junction includes a device configured to deploy a material in a solid state to a downhole location proximate to the borehole junction, and a heat source configured to apply heat to the material to a temperature sufficient to liquefy the material. The liquified material is configured to flow into a formation region adjacent to the borehole junction and consolidate the formation region.
WATER REMOVAL FROM ELECTRIC SUBMERSIBLE PUMP SYSTEMS
An electric submersible pump includes a pump, an electric motor that is coupled to the pump by a rotatable shaft, a seal section that is positioned between the pump and the electric motor. The seal section contains a sequestration device and a motor oil for the electric motor. The sequestration device includes a superabsorbent polymer to contact the motor oil and to react with a wellbore fluid from a wellbore to prevent premature failure of the electric submersible pump from the wellbore fluid contamination of the motor oil.
