FLARE SPILL PROTECTION

An offshore spill protection system includes a flare boom configured to connect to an offshore drilling rig. The flare boom is configured to flare at least a portion of hydrocarbons flowed from the offshore drilling rig to the flare boom. A liquid hydrocarbon capture system includes a plate configured to be spatially positioned relative to the flare boom. The plate is sized to collect at least unflared hydrocarbons in a liquid state that flow through the flare boom.

A method of providing a deluge system (10) on a boom (12) such as a boom that is used to conduct well flaring operations at an end thereof. The deluge system comprises a base unit (30), a stanchion (20), and a nozzle apparatus (22); the method comprising attaching the deluge system to a burner boom with a walkway, such that there remains a width of at least 30 cm clear passage on the boom's walkway after the deluge system has been attached. This provides an escape and/or rescue route for personnel should a dangerous situation occur, such as uncontrolled fire or personnel falling overboard. In preferred embodiments, the deluge system is attached to the boom outboard of handrail supports (which includes on a single handrail). The deluge system may have its own mechanism e.g. a winch, for moving the stanchion from a stowed position to an operative position which allows a safe and more optimum positioning of the stanchion away from the well flaring operation, as herein described. In a preferred embodiment, the stanchion is provided as part of a moveable member which is rotationally attached to a connection mechanism of the base unit at a connection point spaced away from an end of the moveable member. This allows the moveable member to have a counter weight system and reduces the amount of force required to move the moveable member, avoiding mechanical constraints.

The present invention comprises a remote gas monitoring system (RGMS) which improves soil-gas monitoring and data management tasks at landfills and other impacted sites while reducing errors in data collection. The remote gas monitoring system allows for continuous monitoring of landfill soil-gas composition and more efficient and cost-effective operation of a landfill flare system. The invention also comprises a method of controlling the operation of a landfill flare by signaling the flare to begin and cease operation based on predetermined threshold landfill gas concentrations.

A hydrocarbon management system comprises a flare boom configured to connect to a drilling or production rig. The flare boom is configured to combust at least a portion of hydrocarbon fluids flowed from the rig to the flare boom. A catcher is configured to be spatially positioned relative to the end of the flare boom. The catcher comprises a diverter positioned to divert a flow of uncombusted hydrocarbon liquids from the flare boom, and a container configured to receive the uncombusted hydrocarbon liquids diverted by the diverter.

A portable flaring apparatus is disclosed. The flaring apparatus comprises a stack comprising multiple segments of varying diameters, which may be configured to be telescoped for transport. The flaring apparatus further comprises one or more inlets for the intake of gas, an arrester for suppressing flames and detonation within the flaring system, and a plurality of combustion tips for flaring gas. The components of the flaring apparatus may be affixed to a trailer platform for portability.

A wastewater container, or fluid capture tank, for capturing fluid from a flare is provided, along with methods for making and using the fluid capture tank. The fluid capture tank includes an open top tank to hold fluid for disposal, and a flare chute mounted to one end of the open top tank. The flare chute includes three panels, including a bottom panel mounted to a left wall panel and a right wall panel, wherein the three panels direct fluid from a line into the open top tank. A refractory lining is disposed on an inner surface of at least one of the three panels facing the line, wherein the refractory lining protects the inner surface from heat as hydrocarbons in the fluid are burned.

In one embodiment, a method for preventing flaring at a facility, by a system, includes receiving a plurality of pressure measurements from a sensor disposed downstream of the facility. The method further includes comparing the plurality of pressure measurements to a threshold pressure, wherein the threshold pressure corresponds to mitigating a flaring event. In response to determining that at least one of the plurality of pressure measurements is greater than the threshold pressure, the method further includes analyzing injection response curves for a plurality of wells to determine a first well for adjusting a back pressure on a reservoir intersected by the first well. The method further includes transmitting an instruction to the first well to adjust the back pressure on the reservoir.
