In-line phase separation
A method of separating fluid phases in a well or riser. The method comprises: locating an inlet device of a flexible tubing at a substantially horizontal portion of the well or riser, wherein a portion of the flexible tubing extends into the well or riser and the flexible tubing terminates at the inlet device; biasing the inlet device against a wall of the well or riser; and extracting a stratified fluid phase from the well or riser through the inlet device and flexible tubing, wherein a shape of the inlet device is configured to match a shape of the wall.
SHROUDED BAND-PASS FILTER FOR OIL WELL
Generally, embodiments described herein take the form of a shrouded band-pass filter that ensures liquid flow past the filter while reducing or minimizing gas contact with the filter. A shroud encircles the band-pass filter and is affixed to a dip tube (to which the band-pass filter is also affixed). The shroud and band-pass filter are contained within tubing within the oil well. As the pump operates, a fluid and gas mixture is drawn into the tube by operation of the pump. Gas may exit the tubing through vents while the fluid flows downward within the tubing. Fluid flows around the shroud and thus past the band-pass filter, before entering a dip tube via a strainer positioned within the shroud and above the filter. The dip tube permits the fluid to flow upward and, ultimately, out of the oil well as the pump operates.
Torpedo plunger
A plunger having a generally hollow interior between an open upper end of the plunger and a closed bottom end of the plunger. One or more orifices extend through a sidewall of the plunger near the closed bottom surface. The orifices fluidly connect the hollow interior of the plunger with the tubing below the plunger when the plunger is in use. The orifices allow for a transfer of gas from the well bottom into the liquid load above the plunger during plunger ascent. The orifices also allow liquids to pass through the plunger during plunger descent.
Method and system for subsurface resource production
A means to generate increasing geological permeability to produce greater volumes of various subsurface geological resources when compared to the current conventional production methods is disclosed. The means include a Pulsed Power Plasma Emitter System capable of substantially increasing the available electrical energy for use in high power compression surge currents that can be discharged and transmitted to power a simplified downhole Plasma Emitter Tool subsystem. The simplified downhole Plasma Emitter Tool sub-system is capable of generating a broad range of precisely controlled magnetohydrodynamic plasma spark discharges that produce a broad range of high power electromagnetic, acoustic and hydrodynamic surge waves. These powerful surge waves are generated at energy and power levels that are necessary to physically modify all types of geological formation permeability and to energize the mobilization of various subsurface fluids and fluidized resources.
Downhole blower system with bearings and seals
This disclosure describes various implementations of a downhole-blower system that can be used to boost production in a wellbore. The downhole-blower system includes a blower and an electric machine coupled to the blower that can be deployed in a wellbore, and that can, in cooperation, increase production through the wellbore.
Landfill well pump
A submersible fluid pump suitable for use in a landfill well includes an outer case extending along a vertical axis and at least partially defining an interior of the fluid pump, a fluid inlet and outlet, a discharge tube within the outer case and disposed between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet, a float positioned around the discharge tube and within the outer case such that the float is within the discharge tube and the outer case, the float being movable along the discharge tube in an axial direction, a pneumatic valve configured to introduce pressurized air into the interior of the fluid pump, an actuator configured to open and close the pneumatic valve, and a plurality of magnets comprising a first magnet fixed with respect to the actuator and a second magnet fixed with respect to the float, the second magnet configured to magnetically repel the first magnet as the float moves to tip the actuator to either open or close the pneumatic valve.
A METHOD FOR THE EXTRACTION OF HYDROCARBON
A method to facilitate the extraction of hydrocarbon from a coal seam gas formation is described that includes. : (a) drilling a wellbore using a drill string to access the coal seam gas formation; (b) perforating a section of the drill string; (c) abandoning a section of the drill string in the wellbore; (d) setting a temporary plug to isolate the abandoned section of the drill string and the wellbore; (e) installing a production tubing string above the temporary plug to create a fluid passageway ; (f) displacing a fluid above the temporary plug ; (g) removing the temporary plug to create an initial stimulated reservoir volume and, resultantly, at least partially filling an annulus formed between the abandoned section of the drill string and the wellbore wall with coal fragments; and (h) extracting hydrocarbon from the coal seam gas formation via the fluid passageway to create an expanding stimulated reservoir volume.
DOWNHOLE SOLIDS HANDLING IN WELLS
A solids collector is disposed at an end of a tubing in a wellbore. At a top of the solids collector, a reservoir fluid stream carrying solids is separated into a solids-liquid stream that is reversed into an annulus in the solids collector and a gas stream that continues to move uphole in the wellbore. At an end of the annulus in the solids collector, the solids-liquid stream is separated into a liquid stream that moves up the tubing and solids that are accumulated in the solids collector.
Processes and systems for injection of a liquid and gas mixture into a well
Processes and systems for injecting a liquid and gas mixture into a well are disclosed. The processes and systems include injecting a mixture of a liquid and a gas into a well in order to: increase production of a production fluid in the well, decrease the bottom hole pressure, decrease the density of the production fluid, or a combination thereof.
Axial gap generator measurement tool
A tool includes a device including a housing and a rotor, the rotor to rotate about a longitudinal axis, and an axial gap generator including a stator assembly positioned adjacent to the rotor. The axial gap generator generates a voltage signal as a function of a gap spacing between the stator assembly and the rotor, the gap spacing being parallel to the longitudinal axis.
