Determining a stuck pipe location
Embodiments for determining a stuck pipe location include determining that a pipe is stuck in a wellbore due to an obstruction; deploying a fiber optic stuck pipe location detector inside the pipe, activating a first fiber optic sensor to detect a baseline reading, and manipulating the pipe. Some embodiments include detecting micro-noises caused by the stretching of the pipe, wirelessly acquiring data related to the micro-noises from the first fiber optic sensor, and determining a location of the obstruction by comparing the baseline reading with the data related to the micro-noises. Some embodiments include recovering the pipe at a predetermined point around the location of the obstruction while leaving the first fiber optic sensor inside the pipe.
Modular Borehole Imaging Apparatus and Methods
The present disclosure introduces an apparatus including a toolstring for use in a tubular extending into a subterranean formation. The toolstring includes modular components that include one or more caliper modules and a power and control (P/C) module. The one or more caliper modules each include radially rotatable fingers for sensing an internal diameter of the tubular. The P/C module is operable for distributing power and control signals to the one or more caliper modules. The caliper and P/C modules are mechanically and electrically interconnected by common lower interfaces of the caliper and P/C modules.

Constrained Natural Fracture Parameter Hydrocarbon Reservoir Development
Systems and methods for developing hydrocarbon reservoirs based on constrained natural fracture parameters. A natural fracture modeling is generated for a reservoir, an initial set of fracture model parameters is determined, and a fracture model optimization is conducted to determine an optimized set of fracture model parameters. The optimized set of fracture model parameters are used as a basis for modeling the reservoir, and the modeling is used to generate a simulation of the reservoir.
Remote wellhead integrity and sub-surface safety valve test
A method for remotely testing wellhead integrity of a well is disclosed. The method includes connecting valves and associated gauges of the well remotely to a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, obtaining real time pressure and temperature readings through the SCADA system, detecting, using a thermal infrared camera installed at a wellhead tree and flow lines of the well, potential oil/gas leak, and determining, by the SCADA system and based at least on the real time pressure and temperature readings and a detection result of the thermal infrared camera, integrity of the valves.
Smart caliper and resistivity imaging logging-while-drilling tool (SCARIT)
Systems and methods include a system for deploying and using a customized logging-while-drilling (LWD) tool. A command is provided by a tool control system to a mechanical drive of a LWD tool to cause pads and caliper fingers of the LWD tool to extend radially, lock in place using a locking mechanism, and begin to capture downhole measurements while the LWD tool is deployed in a borehole of a well. Pressure pulse cycles produced by a series of distinct high and low flow rates by the tool control system are provided to create pulses to be detected downhole by pressure transducers. A measurement sequence for caliper and resistivity images is triggered by the tool control system. The measurement sequence is terminated by the tool control system to conserve energy.
Accurate rendering of acoustic images
A device, system and method to process acoustic images of tubulars and wellbores. Corrections for real-world logging are calculated and stored in correction Look Up Tables (LUT), which are used to display projections or create geometric models of the wellbore or tubular. The user interface allows the user to interact with the projections to update the LUTs to operate on the images. This process helps correct for real-world challenges such as tool eccentricity, tool rotation, tool angle, and speed of sound differences in order to create a more intuitive rendering.
Method and apparatus of untethered casing and bore hole survey through the drill string while tripping out drill pipe
A method for measuring the thickness of casing in a wellbore and/or analyzing the inner surface of the cased or non-cased wellbore. The method includes an positioning an untethered logging tool in a drill string, receiving the logging tool in a catcher positioned within the drill string, positioning a plurality ultrasonic transducers with the average distance between the outer surface of the plurality of transducers and an interior surface of the catcher sub being less than 0.8 mm, and moving the drill string and the logging tool toward a mouth of the borehole while transmitting acoustic waves through the catcher sub toward the wellbore casing and receiving acoustic waves back to the logging tool after the acoustic waves interact with the wellbore casing and reflect through the catcher.
Ultrasonic interventionless system and method for detecting downhole activation devices
An interventionless system and method: of detecting a downhole activation device are provided. The system includes a first detector disposed downhole in a fluid pathway and; a second detector disposed downhole of the first detector in the fluid pathway. In one exemplary embodiment, the detectors include a pair of ultrasonic transducers that generate signals indicative of fluid pathway flow. Differences in the signals between the detectors are indicative of the presence of the downhole activation device within the fluid pathway. The system also includes a deployment port disposed above the second detector from which the downhole activation device may be deployed into the fluid pathway.
RESISTIVITY DETERMINATION FROM ONE TRANSMITTER AND ONE RECEIVER ANTENNAS
A system and a method for evaluating a subterranean earth formation include a logging tool locatable in a wellbore dispose in the formation. The logging tool may include a transmitter antenna and a single receiver antenna. The transmitter antenna is configured to transmit a first electromagnetic signal into the subterranean earth formation. The system further includes a processor and a non-transitory memory device. The memory device includes instructions that cause the processor to control a current and a voltage sourced to the transmitter antenna, receive, via the single receiver antenna, a second electromagnetic signal emitted by the subterranean earth formation in response to receiving the first electromagnetic signal, and determine a resistivity of the subterranean earth formation based on the second electromagnetic signal.
