A method comprises monitoring a resistance over time of a tubing encased conductor (TEC) that electrically connects a first downhole gauge to a second downhole gauge positioned in a borehole deeper than the first downhole gauge. The method includes detecting that a first TEC fault has occurred in the TEC, in response to a change in the resistance being greater than a fault occurrence threshold and in response to an amount of the time of the change being smaller than a fault time threshold.

VIRTUAL FLOW RATE TEST

A system and method of estimating a flow rate through a pipe using thermodynamics. The flow rates are estimated by using fluid properties, reservoir properties, pump properties, and heat transfer properties. Additionally, historical well data can be used to create a model that is used to estimate flow rate through a pipe.

Identification of heat capacity properties of formation fluid

Downhole fluid sensing device is disclosed for determining heat capacity of a formation fluid produced by a sampled subterranean well, the sensor package having an annulus shaped, elongate body defining a cylindrical fluid sampling space, the sensor package and the sampling space having a common longitudinal center axis. The elongate sensor package body has a fluid entrance port that provides well fluid ingress into the fluid sampling space and a fluid exit port that provides well fluid egress out of the fluid sampling space. A heat source is coupled to the elongate sensor package body and located along a portion of the fluid path, and the heat source inputs heat into sampled well fluid. Finally, temperature sensing devices (located between the fluid entrance port and fluid exit port measure heat conducted to the sampled well fluid, wherein each of the temperature sensing devices is radially spaced from the heat source.

Methods and apparatus for wellbore evaluation

A wellbore tool string includes a combination of acoustic inspection tool(s) and electro-mechanical inspection tool(s). The tool string is configured to combine acoustic with electro-mechanic wellbore inspection to circumvent limitations that both technologies may be subject to in wellbore environments. Anomalous data from one or more acoustic tools can be correlated with data acquired by an electro-mechanical tool incorporated into the same tool string to determine wellbore conditions that may have adversely affected the operation of the acoustic tool(s).
