Insertion-removal tool for holder/bit
A unitary bit/holder assembly includes a reverse taper insert having a diamond coated tip mounted thereon that is received in an annular flange forwardmost portion of a holder body. In a modification, the diamond coated tip is received in a recess on a generally cylindrical forwardmost portion of the holder body.
Bit holder
A unitary bit/holder and/or a bit holder including a body portion and a shank. The body portion and the shank being coaxial and including a bore extending from a forward end of the body portion to the distal end of the shank. The shank further including a segment adjacent a distal end of the shank that includes a plurality of ribs and at least one notch or relief zone between each rib in the plurality of ribs.
Bit Holder With Shortened Nose Portion
A bit holder that includes a front portion and a shank axially depending from the front portion. The front portion having an axial length that is less than the axial length of the shank. A combination bit holder and base block that includes the bit holder with the front portion having an axial length that is less than the axial length of the shank. The base block including a mounting portion and a device receiving portion, the device receiving portion including a length that is the same or less than a length of the mounting portion. The base block having a device receiving portion that includes a length shorter than a length of the mounting portion adapted to provide increased access to the rear of the bit assembly allowing the base blocks to be mounted closer to each other for micro-milling operations. Shortened bit holder shanks are reconfigured from prior art to provide increased holding power between the bit holder shank and base block bore.
Rear of base block
An improved base block is disclosed for use mainly in road milling equipment, but also capable of use in trenching equipment and mining equipment. The base mounting portion is shortened in length from such prior art base blocks and has a reduced length device receiving portion extending therefrom that includes a bore therethrough. Rearwardly of the device receiving portion, the base mounting portion includes a reduced diameter semi-bore or curved wall capable of engaging a portion of the shank side wall of a standard length bit/holder shank. Additionally, an angled slot adjacent the rear of the device receiving bore increases access to the rear to aid removal of a bit/holder therefrom.
MINERAL BITS AND MOUNTS
Mineral bits (10, 100) and associated mounts (30, 116, 200) for use during excavation and mining operations are disclosed. An exemplary bit (10) has a front region (12) and an opposite rear region (14) and comprises a head portion (16) and a mounting portion (18) secured to the head portion (16). The mounting portion (18) can be configured to be releasably retained by a mount (30). A rounded transition (22) disposed in the front region (12) of the bit between the head portion (16) and the mounting portion (18) provides a clearance (C) between the head portion (16) and the mount (16). Mineral bits (10, 100) disclosed can be inserted into and withdrawn from mounts (30, 1 16, 200) by linear and/or rotational movement.
TOOL FOR INSTALLING A BIT ON AND/OR DEINSTALLING A BIT FROM A BIT HOLDER SYSTEM OF A MILLING MACHINE
The invention relates to a tool for installing a bit on and/or deinstalling a bit from a bit holder system of a milling machine, in particular a road milling machine, having at least one initiator with which installation and/or deinstallation of a bit is initiated. Provision is made that the tool comprises a detection device having at least one counting device; and that the detection device is designed to detect a number of bits deinstalled using the tool and/or a number of bits installed using the tool. The invention also relates to a corresponding bit holder system and to a method for monitoring wear. With the tool and the bit holder system, additional information regarding bit changes that have been carried out is made available to a user.
Mineral bits (10, 100) disclosed can be inserted into and withdrawn from mounts (30, 116, 200) by linear and/or rotational movement.
SERVICE TOOL FOR CUTTING BIT ASSEMBLY
A tool includes an actuator assembly, a rod, a first nut, and a second nut. The actuator assembly includes a cylinder, a ram, and a bore extending through the cylinder and the ram. The cylinder includes an internal chamber supporting the ram, a first end, a second end, and a reaction surface positioned proximate the first end. The ram is movable relative to the cylinder and positioned adjacent the second end of the cylinder. The rod extends through the bore of the actuator assembly. The first nut is selectively coupled to one of a first end of the rod and a second end of the rod, and defines a first dimension larger than the bore width of the bit block. The second nut is selectively coupled to the other of the first end of the rod and the second end of the rod, and defines a second dimension less than the bore width.
Bit holder
An improved bit holder includes a larger bit shank bore and an enlarged upper shank segment or band with a taper of up to 7 degrees per side that provides an interference fit between the top of the shank and top of the bit block bore when the bottom of the bit holder body seats on the top of the bit block bore. An annular tapered void adjacent the bit holder tire portion provides for ease of bit holder extraction.
