Fabrication of nanowires and hierarchically porous materials through supercritical CO.SUB.2 .assisted nebulization
A processing technique for creating nanowires and hierarchically porous micro/nano structures of ceramic materials is provided. The process includes evaporation of micron-sized water droplets containing dissolved organic salts on heated substrates followed by thermal decomposition of the deposited material. The micron-sized droplets may be generated by supercritical CO.sub.2 assisted nebulization, in which high-pressure streams of aqueous solution and supercritical CO.sub.2 are mixed, followed by controlled depressurization through a fine capillary. Rapid evaporation takes place on the heated substrates and structures are generated due to CO.sub.2 effervescence from the droplets and evaporation of water, along with the pinning of the three phase contact line. Depending on the mass deposited, a mesh of nano-wires or membrane-like structures may result. Sintering of the membrane-like scaffolds above the decomposition temperature of the organic salt creates nanopores within the structures, creating a dual hierarchy of pores.
Vascular occlusion devices utilizing thin film nitinol foils
A deployable occlusion device for filling an aneurysm. The occlusion device includes a support structure, for example a wire or otherwise elongate structure. The occlusion device also includes a mesh component having a porosity. The mesh component has a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion of the mesh component is attached to the support structure and the second end portion of the mesh component is a free end. The mesh component extends from the support structure.
Medical devices
Described are medical devices including expandable tubular bodies configured to be implanted into a lumen, wherein the outer surface of the expandable tubular bodies are coupled to a polymer(s).
WEARABLE BIOSENSORS AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF
Conformable and wearable sensors with integrated on-chip gate for the detection of biomolecules, chemicals, and other substrates and applications thereof are provided. Biosensor chips can be built with In2O3 nanoribbon field-effect transistors. Biosensor chips can conform to features of a human body, enabling ability for individuals to wear a biosensor.
COMPOSITE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POISSON'S RATIO MATERIALS FOR MEDICAL DEVICES
A stent for insertion into a vessel of a patient includes an inner tube comprising a positive Poisson's ratio (PPR) material and defining a lumen extending along a longitudinal axis of the stent; and an outer tube comprising a negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) foam material and disposed around an entirety of the inner tube, the outer tube extending along the longitudinal axis of the stent. The stent is configured to exhibit an auxetic behavior in response to a deformation of the stent. An outer surface of the second portion is configured to apply a pressure to an inner surface of the vessel when the stent is implanted into the vessel and the deformation is removed.
Self-expanding devices and methods therefor
Described here are delivery devices for delivering one or more implants to the body, and methods of using. The delivery devices may deliver implants to a variety of locations within the body, for a number of different uses. In some variations, the delivery devices have a cannula with one or more curved sections. In some variations, a pusher may be used to release one or more implants from the cannula. In some variations, one or more of the released implants may be a self-expanding device. Methods of delivering implants to one or more sinus cavities are also described here.
Woven or braided tubular metal construct
Multi-filament microcables are used in place of the traditional monofilament wires as the constituent elements of a woven or braided band. This enhances the function and manufacturability of such bands for various applications, such as orthopaedic applications including sternotomy closures.
INTRAVASCULAR STENT
An expandable stent for implantation in a body lumen, such as an artery, is disclosed. The stent consists of a plurality of radially expandable cylindrical rings generally aligned on a common longitudinal stent axis and interconnected by one or more interconnecting links placed so that the stent is flexible in the longitudinal direction. The link pattern is optimized to enhance longitudinal flexibility and high longitudinal strength compression of the stent.
Biodegradable stent
Medical stent designs are disclosed. An example stent includes a tubular scaffold having a proximal end and a distal end. The tubular scaffold includes a first filament extending between the proximal end and the distal end, the first filament including a first biodegradable region positioned adjacent to a second biodegradable region. Further, the first biodegradable region includes a first biodegradable material, the first biodegradable material having a first rate of degradation. The second biodegradable region includes a second biodegradable material, the second biodegradable material having a second rate of degradation, wherein the first rate of degradation is different from the second rate of degradation.
SIDEWAYS OR TANGENTIALLY APPLICABLE SURGICAL CLIP FOR BLEEDING CONTROL
A surgical clip that includes two leg sections arranged substantially parallel to each other, two straight sections respectively attached to the two leg sections at an angle to the two leg sections, and a curved section connecting the two straight sections at ends opposite to the two leg sections used to place the clip tangentially on blood vessels.
