Concrete Based Reinforced Road Structure Covered by Asphalt
20190226157 · 2019-07-25 ·

Concrete based reinforced road structure covered by asphalt that comprises a basic layer (1) made of concrete with a substantially horizontal upper surface and placed directly or through a subconstruction on the ground and at least one mould cover layer (2) thereon made of asphalt, and support elements (3) positioned between the basic layer (1) and the cover layer (2), wherein the support elements (3) are inserted in a predetermined depth in the basic layer (1) prior to the setting thereof so that they are partially projecting out of the basic layer (1) in normal direction to the upper surface, and the projecting portion provides protection to the cover layer (2) against being displaced relative to the basic layer (1) under loads to which the road is exposed, and the support elements (3) are flat stripes with walls being substantially normal to the surface of the basic layer (1) and comprising subsequent sections with differing directions to form respective meandering lines.

Millable, Recyclable, Waterproofing, Paving Fabric Interlayer System And Method Of Use

A millable, recyclable, paving fabric interlayer system for the construction and repair of roadways and other load-bearing surfaces and method of using such a fabric is disclosed. The paving fabric includes thermoplastic materials and is combined with asphalt cement to provide a flexible, stress relieving, waterproofing layer for roadways. Because of the thickness and asphalt cement absorption of the fabric, the system provides a stress absorbing interlayer to resist fatigue and reflective cracking in pavements. The system also acts as an effective moisture barrier due to the enhanced capability to retain sufficient asphalt cement when paved onto a roadway. Such a system has the required strength and elongation to be installed on smooth or milled surfaces yet is easily milled and recycled owing to the uniquely engineered tensile and tear strengths of the fabric.

BINDER COMPOSITION FOR IMPROVED TACK COAT AND STRESS ABSORBING MEMBRANE INTERLAYER APPLICATION FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION

A method of installing an asphalt pavement, which method involves: identifying a surface to be paved; applying a non-tracking layer of binder composition to the surface; and permitting the application of an asphalt layer over the non-tracking layer of binder composition. The binder composition consists essentially of: at least one asphalt binder; at least one elastomer; and ethylene bis stearamide. In a further embodiment the binder composition consists essentially of: at least one asphalt binder; at least one elastomer; sulfur; and ethylene bis stearamide. The composition is applied as a tack coat and/or a stress absorbing membrane interlayer and is non-tracking.

VOID REDUCING ASPHALT MEMBRANE COMPOSITION, METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ASPHALT PAVING APPLICATIONS

A method of forming a pavement construction joint that involves dispensing a band of a void reducing joint composition on a substrate using at least one spray application vehicle, wherein the band comprises a width of about 4 to about 24 inches. A paving pass is applied over the band of joint composition, wherein the paving pass is positioned against an edge of a previously laid portion of pavement to form a pavement construction joint having a volume of air voids. At least a portion of the joint composition migrates upward to reduce the volume of air voids. The composition is resistant to flow when applied and migrates into hot mix asphalt in the area of the longitudinal joint to reduce air voids to 7% or less and reduce water permeability. The composition becomes tack-free quickly after application. The composition bonds to asphalt, concrete, brick, stone and metal.

REINFORCING FABRIC

A reinforcing fabric is provided. The reinforcing fabric includes at least one glass fiber, wherein the at least one glass fiber includes a binder, the binder including a polymer resin and a filler, the filler including a recycled asphalt shingle. Further included is a method of reinforcing pavement with the aforementioned reinforcing fabric.

STABLE ASPHALT EMULSIONS, METHODS OF FORMING THE SAME, AND COMPOSITE STRUCTURES FORMED FROM THE SAME

Asphalt emulsions, methods of forming asphalt emulsions, and composite pavement structures formed from the asphalt emulsions are provided herein. In an embodiment, an asphalt emulsion includes a base asphalt component, water, and an oxidized high density polyethylene. The base asphalt component is present in an amount of from about 15 to about 70 weight %, the water is present in an amount of at least about 25 weight %, and the oxidized high density polyethylene is present in an amount of from about 1 to about 20 weight %, where all amounts are based on the total weight of the asphalt emulsion. The oxidized high density polyethylene has an acid value of from about 5 to about 50 mgKOH/g. The asphalt emulsion is free of aggregate and other mineral materials.

MACHINE, SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RESURFACING EXISTING ROADS
20180371701 · 2018-12-27 ·

A method of resurfacing exposed surfaces of existing roads, and a resurfaced road. The method may include forming stress absorbing membrane interlayers (SAMIs) over the exposed surface of the existing road. The SAMIs may include a first layer of a binding material and a fiber material. The method may also include disposing an asphalt mixture directly over the SAMIs. The disposed asphalt mixture may cover the SAMIs. Additionally, the method may include shaping the asphalt mixture disposed over the SAMIs.

BINDER COMPOSITION FOR IMPROVED TACK COAT AND STRESS ABSORBING MEMBRANE INTERLAYER APPLICATION FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION

A binder composition for asphalt pavements that includes: an asphalt binder; an elastomeric polymer; a wax modifier; and optionally at least one of: i) fumed silica or fumed alumina; and ii) a saponified fatty acid and a resin acid gelling compound. The composition is applied as a tack coat and/or a stress absorbing membrane interlayer and is non-tracking.
