DRUG ELUTING GUIDE WIRE
A drug eluting guide wire comprises a body aperture having low friction characteristics. The guide wire includes an effective leading end segment that is formed along its outer surface with a rapid action body aperture drug eluting agent serving as a vasilodating substance. The low friction characteristics are achieved by the leading end segment of the wire being covered with a low friction lubricating substance such as hydrogel that is loaded with a drug eluting substance in the form of isoprenaline in constituting the segment. Isoprenaline serves a constricted body aperture rapid action relaxing function in amongst others, or at least the case of the guide wire, is used to access a kidney along a ureter in response to temporarily paralyzing the smooth muscles of the ureteric wall resulting in widening of the lumen of the ureter.
Copolymers of hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments that reduce protein adsorption
The present disclosure relates to compositions A composition comprising a polymerization product of an anionic polysaccharide, a diisocyanate, and a linker, wherein the linker comprises i) an ether group, an ester group, or a combination thereof and, ii) a chain extender comprising a hydroxyl group, a thiol group, an amine group, or a combination thereof. The disclosure further relates to medical devices comprising the aforementioned compositions, and to methods of using the compositions and devices. More particularly, the compositions, devices and methods described herein are useful for preventing protein adhesions in vivo, particularly the Vroman effect.
Durable photopolymerizable cross-linked anti-fouling coatings
Durable, anti-fouling, crosslinked zwitterionic coatings that are grafted to the surface of a substrate through covalent bonding are disclosed. When exposed to a light source, zwitterionic monomers react with a crosslinker and with activated radicals at the surface of the substrate, simultaneously forming the crosslinked zwitterionic coating and anchoring it to the surface of the substrate. Photomasking techniques can be used to micropattern the zwitterionic coatings. The zwitterionic coatings can be applied to a variety of substrates, including medical devices and systems.

Multifunctional bioimplantable structure and method of preparing the same
The present disclosure provides a method for producing a multifunctional implantable structure, the method having: preparing an implantable base; coating a polymer layer on the base, wherein the polymer layer is partially curable; curing the polymer layer such that the polymer layer has cured and non-cured portions; and dry-etching the polymer layer to remove the non-cured portion thereof, to allow the polymer layer to have a nano-turf structure having pores defined therein.

Device for the delivery of a prosthetic implant and method of use thereof
A surgical device for assisting in the placement of a prosthetic implant. One or more sheets of polymer are in the form of a conical frustum such that a proximal end is sealed and a distal end is open, with an elongated slit extending from the distal end toward the proximal end. A single opening is formed by the distal opening and the elongated slit with a set of inter-lockable fastener elements disposed along opposing sides and configured to seal the elongated slit such that the distal end remains open to allow for egress of the prosthetic implant for placement into a surgical pocket. A lubricious coating is applied to the interior cavity of the frustum in addition to one or more surface active coatings. Movement of the prosthetic implant across the one or more surface active coatings causes the coatings to provide one or more offered benefits.

Compressible vaginal pessary for treatment of stress urinary incontinence
The present invention provides a vaginal pessary that offers mid-urethral support and is anchored proximate the cervix by a proximal annulus engaging opposing walls of the vagina and supporting a distal annulus engaging opposing walls of the vagina posterior to the mid-urethra. The proximal and distal annulus are joined by compressible cross rods compressible to reduce a diameter of at least one of the proximal and distal annuli.
