POROUS MEDICAL DEVICE AND METHODS OF USE

A medical system including a tube defining a lumen, a porous body connected to a distal end of the tube to be advanced to a target site within a subject. The porous body defines a plurality of openings, the plurality of openings are in fluid connection with the lumen, the porous body includes a first material and a second material, and the second material elutes from the porous body in the subject.

Rod-shaped body

The invention relates to a rod-shaped body comprised of one or more filaments and of a non-ferromagnetic matrix material. The matrix material surrounds the filament(s) and/or adheres them to one another. The rod-shaped body is also comprised of a dopant consisting of particles that generate magnetic resonance tomographic artifacts that is introduced into the matrix material. Rod-shaped bodies of this type can be used to construct guide wires, catheters and other instruments to be used in minimally invasive surgical interventions.

Microneedle patches for transdermal delivery

Embodiment provided herein are directed to microneedle patches for agent application on a mammal skin. The microneedle patch may comprise a patch scaffold having a surface, and a plurality of microneedles disposed on the surface. Each of the microneedles may be capable of piercing the skin 50 μm to 1000 μm deep, and comprises a composite material comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and one or more additional copolymers selected from the group consisting of maltose, leucine, and dileucine.

Matrices comprising a modified polysaccharide

The present invention discloses a matrix comprising a modified polysaccharide consisting of repeating disaccharide units whereby in at least 11% of the disaccharide units one primary alcohol group is oxidized into a carboxylic acid group.

IMPLANTABLE POLYMERIC DEVICE FOR SUSTAINED RELEASE OF BUPRENORPHINE

The present invention provides compositions, methods, and kits for treatment of opiate addiction and pain. The invention provides a biocompatible nonerodible polymeric device which releases buprenorphine continuously with generally linear release kinetics for extended periods of time. Buprenorphine is released through pores that open to the surface of the polymeric matrix in which it is encapsulated. The device may be administered subcutaneously to an individual in need of continuous treatment with buprenorphine.

Silk fibroin-based microneedles and methods of making the same

A microneedle or microneedle device includes a microneedle body extending from a base to a penetrating tip formed from a silk fibroin based material, which is easy to fabricate and highly biocompatible. The microneedle device can include one or more microneedles mounted to a substrate. The silk fibroin can include active agents to be transported into or across biological barriers such as skin, tissue and cell membranes. The silk fibroin microneedles can be fully or partially biodegradable and/or bioerodible. The silk fibroin is highly stable, affords room temperature storage and is implantable. The silk fibroin structure can be modulated to control the rate of active agent delivery.

A multi-layer device is provided that is useful in tissue regeneration, for example, for vascular regeneration, e.g., for use in treatment of a coronary vascular disease, such as for treatment of myocardial infarction. A method of making the device also is provided.

Material for adhesion prevention

A material for adhesion prevention can be adhered to biological tissue with certainty and has improved tissue adhesiveness and biodegradability. Such material for adhesion prevention is composed of: a 1- to 1,000-m-thick water-soluble support layer comprising a water-soluble polymer; and a 1- to 1,000-m-thick adhesion prevention layer comprising a biodegradable polymer. The biodegradable polymer has a structure in which a branched polyalkylene glycol comprising 3 to 8 terminal hydroxyl groups per molecule is bound to a polyhydroxy alkanoic acid, and a mass ratio of the branched polyalkylene glycol relative to the total mass is 1% to 30%.

CELL ADHESIVE MATERIAL

A cell adhesive substrate comprising a substratum, on a surface of which a peptide group is immobilized, wherein the peptide group comprises a peptide containing 40% or more and 75% or less of one or two or more of basic amino acid residues selected from the group consisting of lysine, arginine and histidine and 25% or more of one or two or more of hydrophobic amino acid residues selected from the group consisting of leucine, isoleucine, glycine, alanine, valine, phenylalanine, proline, tryptophan and methionine. There is provided a cell adhesive substrate that is unlikely to cause an immune reaction and can maintain a cell adhesion effect for a long time.

Coated Endovascular Intrasaccular Occlusion Device
