SAFETY TRUCK ATTACHMENTS, AND METHODS OF SAFETY TRUCK USE

Embodiments of safety trucks incorporate multiple connection points to which a variety of attachments, or combinations of attachments, can be releasably and interchangeably coupled to enable their use with increased effectiveness to safeguard roadway construction, maintenance and repair personnel as they perform tasks within or relatively near to roadway workzones and worksites. Also, methods of operation of the safety truck embodiments enhance their ability to guard and protect roadway construction, maintenance and repair personnel while they work within or relatively near to roadway workzone and worksite locations.

Portable traffic message signs configured for use on or near roadways, highways, sidewalks, and/or other travel routes. The portable traffic message sign may be configured to provide instructions, warnings, alerts, and/or other information for travelers. In some embodiments, the portable traffic message sign may be configured to be adaptive in response to sensed weather, traffic, and/or other conditions. For example, the portable traffic message sign may have a controller determining suitable message content to display, the message content reflecting a present traffic and/or weather condition. Moreover, the message sign controller may select, based on a speed of travel of traffic, words, phrases, and/or pages to display the message content such that the message may be perceivable by oncoming travelers. The controller may control height, angle of rotation, and/or other orientation parameters of the message sign toward a point of aim in order that the message may be perceivable by travelers.

Traffic Control, Site Observation, and Data Management System and Apparatus Including a Remotely-Controllable Arm

A trailer-mounted system and apparatus are provided to improve safety at road construction sites and other locations by allowing drivers to be signaled, and one or more lanes of traffic blocked, without having a flagger stand in or immediately adjacent to a road that is carrying traffic. The system and apparatus may have extensive data and audio and video networking capabilities to allow for remote control of the system and/or observation of the construction site. These networking capabilities may allow the system to further serve to enhance collaboration among remote worksites.

A variant apparatus may be mounted on a highway divider such as a K-rail instead of a mobile trailer. Another variant provides a portable kiosk containing apparatus to supply the data networking and collaboration functions without the mechanical apparatus used to block traffic.
