Eco-friendly sorbent material for removing oil
Disclosed are a sorbent produced by recycling waste paper, which is an eco-friendly recycling paper resource, to adsorb and remove a marine spilled oil and other types of oil and a method of producing the same. The oil sorbent is produced by hydrophobizing a biomass material such as waste paper using a gas-grafting method. Compared to the oil sorbent of the prior art formed of synthetic resin, it is possible to provide excellent oil adsorption selectivity, a high oil adsorption rate, and a low water absorption rate. Therefore, an incineration process for processing the waste oil sorbent after use is easy advantageously. The oil sorbent generates less harmful substances during combustion because the eco-friendly material is used. Since a biomass material is hydrophobized using vegetable fatty acids, decomposition is performed fast within a short time in a landfill process, and there is no risk of environmental pollution.
Feather oil absorbent boom structure
A feather oil absorbent boom structure comprising an inner core and an outer ring winding outside the inner core; the inner core is a cloth bag, and the cloth bag is filled with feather oil absorbent material; the cloth bag is made of spunbonded-melt blown-spunbonded polyporpylene non-woven cloth; the outer ring is a plate-shaped oil absorbent felt formed through thermal fusion of feathers and bicomponent fibers of polypropylene/polyethylene having a low melting point; the weight ratio of the feathers to the bicomponent fibers is 70-85:15-30. The feather oil absorbent boom is capable of providing reliable buoyancy, and slowing down the reduction of the strength of the inner core. Further disclosed is a preparation method for the feather oil absorbent boom structure.
Process for preparing lipid coated particles of plant material
The invention relates to methods for making completely biodegradable, hydrophobic, oleophilic plant based materials which are useful in adsorption of petroleum products. The materials have an average diameter of from 1 to 5 mm, and an ash content of from 10% to 30%. The non-paraffin coating is an animal fat product, preferably produced by dissolving a pure animal fat and using this as the coating material.
SUPERHYDROPHOBIC SPONGE AS AN EFFICIENT OIL ABSORBENT MATERIAL FOR OIL SPILL CLEANUP APPLICATIONS
This disclosure describes hydrophobic or super-hydrophobic compositions, such as sponges, that also are oleophilic or super-oleophilic with superior recyclability, good mechanical strength, low cost, and manufacture scalability. The hydrophobic or super-hydrophobic compositions include the reaction product of at least a substrate having a reacting group which reacts with a silane and an alkylsilane or a fluoroalkylsilane having an alkyl group comprised of a hydrocarbon, an aliphatic hydrocarbon, or a fluorohydrocarbon of 1 to about 30 carbon atoms.
