Automated Plumbing System Sensor Warning System and Method

A standing water alert system comprises two conductive wires or a float extending into a drain and connected to an audible or visual alarm that is triggered when standing water is present. A drain alert system and method comprises a plurality of sensors, such as pressure or acoustic/vibration sensors, at various locations within a plumbing or fluid filtration system to measure pressure or an acoustic profile at that location and a control system to compare the measured parameters to a threshold value or range and/or to other measured parameters from nearby sensor locations. A signal is sent to a remote user or computer or an alarm is triggered when the comparison shows a potential blockage, a leak, or indicating that a filter needs to be replaced or cleaned. An approximate location of the blockage, leak, or fouled filter is determined by comparing measured parameters at nearby sensor locations.

An overflow drain for a tub includes a bracket configured to be located against an inside surface of the tub and connected to an overflow elbow. A first elongated slot is disposed through the bracket. A faceplate is configured to be attached to the bracket. A second elongated slot is disposed through the faceplate. A first knob is movably connected to the faceplate. An elongated seal plate is disposed on the inside of the faceplate and connected to the first knob. The seal plate is configured to move between an open position and a closed position by a movement of the first knob, wherein in the closed position the seal plate is configured to create a watertight seal around either the first or second elongated slots, and wherein in the open position the seal plate is configured to drain a fluid through the first and second elongated slots.

An overflow for a tub or basin includes a bracket and a movable cover. A water passageway is disposed through the bracket. The cover is attached to the bracket and translatably movable by a user. A drain aperture is disposed through the cover. An edge is disposed along a perimeter of the cover with a channel disposed on an inside edge surface. The bracket includes a flexure or a pin biased by a spring. When the cover is attached to the bracket the flexure or pin is partially disposed within the channel creating a force biasing the cover to remain attached to the bracket. Alternatively, a magnet may be used to bias the cover to the bracket. When the cover is in an open position, water can flow through both the bracket and the cover. When the cover is in a closed position, it blocks the flow of water.
