Devices and methods are provided for preventing vortices of liquids as they flow down a drain. The drain flow vortex breakers can have radially-extending fins and can be secured to a drain cover or in the drain body or drain bowl. The vortex breakers can hang from a drain cover with support tabs. The vortex breakers can have compressible portions with an outward bias to secure them within the drain body and/or bowl. The vortex breakers can have rigid overhang portions that can sit in the drain bowl. The vortex breakers can have radial fins that extend and retract radially.

A trench drain with a trench body and a grate for use with a flush-threshold or low-threshold shower. The trench body is rectangular, with a drain hole positioned in the bottom. Front and back flanges extend from the bottom of the front and back sides for an absolute flush installation of the trench drain to the shower body and the bathroom flooring. The trench body may extend under the shower walls on each side. A grate fits into the top of the trench body onto a lip or edge on the interior of the front and back sides. Protrusions may extend inward to help provide support and stability for the grate.

A drain assembly that aids in maximizing the flow of water through a drain. The assembly includes a first coupling element, a drain plate connected to the first coupling that includes a body with a plurality of protrusions that are spaced from each other and extend from the body at a plurality of angles and a drain cover that is connected to the drain plate.

A trench drain with a trench body and a grate for use with a flush-threshold or low-threshold shower. The trench body is rectangular, with a drain hole positioned in the bottom. Disclosed herein are catch basin grate covers comprising a frame; a grate; a heating element in thermal communication with the grate cover; and a power source in electric communication with the heating element. Also disclosed are catch basin grate covers comprising a frame; a grate; means for heating the grate cover; and means for supplying power to the means for heating. Also disclosed are methods of preventing the clogging of a catch basin grate cover due to ice, the method comprising applying electricity to the heating element of the above grate cover, whereby the resulting heat from the heat element causes the ice to thaw, thereby unclogging the catch basin grate cover.
