PATHOGEN REDUCED PLATELET COMPOSITIONS AND RELATED METHODS
Disclosed are methods for treating platelet compositions (e.g. platelet concentrates and/or platelet lysates) with electron beam radiation, where the compositions are in a frozen state during irradiation with the e-beam radiation. The methods can be conducted using e-beam radiation at doses effective to reduce the pathogen content of the compositions while retaining highly beneficial bioactivities of the compositions. Also disclosed are compositions preparable by the methods, and methods and compositions involving the use of the e-beam treated materials.
GLYCOLS AS PATHOGEN INACTIVATING AGENTS
The disclosure relates to uses, methods and compositions for the inactivation of pathogens in biological compositions, using a glycol as a pathogen inactivating agent.
ENDOSCOPIC VESSEL HARVESTING DEVICES WITH CONDITIONING OF INSUFFLATION GAS
A vessel harvesting apparatus for removing a blood vessel from a patient includes collection and conditioning (i.e., treatment) of expelled insufflation gas prior to releasing the gas into the air of the operating room. An endoscopic instrument has a distal end with a vessel harvesting tip and has a proximal end with a handle. An insufflation channel is configured to convey an insufflation gas subcutaneously into a dissected space within the patient. A removal channel is configured to evacuate fluidic contents from the dissected space, wherein the fluidic contents include insufflation gas and biological impurities. A processor/separator is coupled to the removal channel to process the fluidic contents to retain at least some of the biological impurities and to exhaust the insufflation gas.
Anaerobic Blood Storage and Pathogen Inactivation Method
A method for reducing hemolysis and microparticle formation during storage of pathogen reduced blood. Oxygen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced hemolysis. Oxygen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced microparticles. Oxygen and pathogen reduced blood compositions comprising CPAD and riboflavin having reduced hemolysis. Oxygen and pathogen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced microparticles.
Systems and methods for interior energy-activation from an exterior source
A method and a system for producing a change in a medium. The method places in a vicinity of the medium at least one energy modulation agent. The method applies an initiation energy to the medium. The initiation energy interacts with the energy modulation agent to directly or indirectly produce the change in the medium. The system includes an initiation energy source configured to apply an initiation energy to the medium to activate the energy modulation agent.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TREATING BIOLOGICAL FLUIDS
Provided are systems and methods for treating a biological fluid, e.g., to inactivate pathogens.
Blood Purification System Using UV Radiation
An apparatus for reducing pathogens in blood. An infusing blood source provides a supply of blood at a selectable flowrate. A blood transportation line transports the blood from the infusion blood source. A UV-passing cuvette receives the blood from the blood transportation line. An irradiation chamber has a clamp for fixing the UV-passing cuvette at a predetermined gap from the UV radiation source for exposing the blood within the UV-passing cuvette directly to UV radiation. A radiation recycling coating is formed on surfaces of the irradiation chamber for reflecting and recycling the UV radiation to expose the blood indirectly to the UV radiation. The predetermined gap and the flow rate are selected so that the direct and indirect exposure of the blood to the UV radiation kills pathogens in the blood while limiting the loss of healthy blood cells and blood constituents due to the UV radiation and heat generated by the UV radiation source.
ULTRAVIOLET IRRADIATION DEVICE
A light source unit includes a plurality of light emitting devices and outputs ultraviolet light as irradiating light. A drive circuit supplies a drive current Id to the plurality of light emitting devices. A sensing unit senses a trouble in the plurality of light emitting devices. A controller controls the drive current Id in accordance with a result of sensing by the sensing unit. When an output of the light source unit is reduced due to a trouble in one or some of the plurality of light emitting devices, the controller controls the drive current Id of a plurality of light emitting devices other than the light emitting device in trouble so as to compensate reduction in the output of the light source unit.
Blood treatment cassette having a sterilization opening and an associated closure, and blood treatment apparatus
A blood treatment cassette having a cassette body embodied as a hard part and, optionally, a film which is connected to the hard part and at least partially covers the hard part, wherein the hard part comprises at least one sterilization opening, and wherein the sterilization opening comprises a closure device. The invention also relates to a blood treatment apparatus for using the blood treatment cassette.

A method for reducing hemolysis and microparticle formation during storage of pathogen reduced blood. Oxygen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced hemolysis. Oxygen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced microparticles. Oxygen and pathogen reduced blood compositions comprising CPAD and riboflavin having reduced hemolysis. Oxygen and pathogen reduced blood compositions comprising SAGM and riboflavin having reduced microparticles.
