Viral inactivated biological mixture

The invention relates to a viral inactivated biological liquid or dry mixture and to its preparation. Principally, the invention relates, but is not limited, to a mixture derived from a platelet source.

Method for cleaning hard surfaces

An antibacterial cleaning composition for hard surfaces is made from a flexible superabsorbent material and an antibacterial agent. The composition can be applied to various liquid and solid surface contaminants, including blood, vomit, fecal matter, urine, glass, food, etc. The composition may be applied to the contaminated hard surface by several methods including pouring, rolling, spraying or foaming. Once cured, the antimicrobial cleaning composition is removed from the surface, taking the contaminant along with it and leaving behind a clean surface.

An apparatus for the treatment of a liquid that includes a chamber having at least one inner surface, the chamber adapted for passage of a fluid therethrough. The chamber is at least 80 percent enclosed. The apparatus also includes an optional ultraviolet-transmissive tube disposed within the chamber and also adapted for the passage of the liquid therethrough. The apparatus further includes an ultraviolet lamp disposed within the chamber and, optionally, within the ultraviolet-transmissive tube. A reflective material is interposed between the chamber and the transmissive tube. The reflective material is adapted so as to reflect at least a portion of light emitted by the ultraviolet lamp, wherein the reflective material is at least 80 percent reflective.

A blood storage system comprising: a collection vessel for red blood cells; an oxygen or oxygen and carbon dioxide depletion device; a storage vessel for red blood cells; tubing connecting the collection vessel to the oxygen or oxygen and carbon dioxide depletion device and the oxygen or oxygen and carbon dioxide depletion device to the storage vessel; and a gamma or X-ray irradiating device is used to irradiate red blood cells stored in the vessel, storing red blood cells under anaerobic conditions.

Method of heat sanitization of a haemodialysis water circuit using a calculated dose

A method of sanitizing liquid for use in a medical device, the method comprising the steps of providing a medical device defining a water circuit with a volume of liquid, sensing the temperature of the volume of liquid with a sensor, heating the volume of liquid from an initial temperature to exceed a threshold temperature, maintaining the volume of liquid above the threshold temperature, determining a time-temperature value for the volume of liquid periodically once the threshold temperature has been exceeded, calculating a cumulative time-temperature value and providing an output signal once the cumulative time-temperature value has reached a level indicative of a sanitizing dose. A medical device and a liquid sanitizer are also disclosed.

FLOW REACTOR SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISINFECTING A FLUID

A flow reactor system for disinfecting a fluid includes a measuring system for determining at least one state variable, a first irradiation zone and a second irradiation zone in which the fluid is irradiated with electromagnetic radiation. The flow reactor system also includes a first radiation source in the first irradiation zone and a second radiation source in the second irradiation zone. The first radiation source includes at least one emitter unit having a light-emitting diode which emits light in a visible and/or ultraviolet wavelength range. The second radiation source includes at least one emitter unit having a lamp which emits light in an ultraviolet wavelength range. The flow reactor system additionally includes a control unit configured to control the emission intensity of the first radiation source and/or the second radiation source depending on the at least one state variable determined by the measuring system.

Systems and methods for detecting fluid leaks using a non-contact sensor

An irradiation device includes a fluid treatment chamber configured to receive a biological fluid container, the fluid treatment chamber having opposing first and second sides, at least one light source disposed adjacent at least one of the first and second sides of the fluid treatment chamber, and an overflow reservoir in fluid communication with the fluid treatment chamber to receive fluid leaking from the biological fluid container. The device also includes a non-contact sensor disposed adjacent the overflow reservoir and configured to generate a signal according to leaked fluid in the overflow reservoir, an indicator, and a controller coupled to the at least one light source, the non-contact sensor and the indicator, the controller configured to activate the indicator upon receipt of the signal from the sensor and to deactivate the at least one light source subsequent to receipt of the signal from the sensor.

Pathogen reduced platelet compositions and related methods

Disclosed are methods for treating platelet compositions (e.g. platelet concentrates and/or platelet lysates) with electron beam radiation, where the compositions are in a frozen state during irradiation with the e-beam radiation. The methods can be conducted using e-beam radiation at doses effective to reduce the pathogen content of the compositions while retaining highly beneficial bioactivities of the compositions. Also disclosed are compositions preparable by the methods, and methods and compositions involving the use of the e-beam treated materials.
