Wood Foundation Walls and Foundations Formed with Such Walls
A permanent wood foundation wall which includes a frame having a first member, a second member spaced apart from the first member, and two side members. The first member, second member, and two side members each have a front surface and a rear surface that form the front frame surface and the rear frame surface. A cavity is formed between the front frame surface and the rear frame surface of the frame and the first member, second member, and two side members are formed from a wood material including a preservative. Further, the permanent wood foundation wall includes a sheathing board having a first side attached to the rear frame surface of the frame and a second side opposite the first side, a waterproofing membrane applied to the second side of the sheathing board, and a foam layer formed within the cavity of the frame.
Insulating panels for framed cavities in buildings
An insulative panel having a frontside and an opposing backside, and one or more other sides that extend from the frontside to backside, the one or more other sides angling inwardly from the frontside to the backside so that the panel has a tapering profile, the panel being configured to fit into a stud or other such cavity having standardized dimensions, the panel comprising an insulating material with an R-value suitable for use in building construction and remodeling.
Damper frame
A damper frame includes a structural frame and a damper assembly secured to the structural frame. The damper assembly includes a damper support secured to the structural frame. A damper is secured to the damper support. A diagonal link is secured to the structural frame. A lever is secured to the damper support and the damper. The lever is pivotally connected to the diagonal link so displacement of the diagonal link is amplified and transferred to the damper. The damper support includes a laterally-extending cantilevered portion and the damper is secured to the damper support at the cantilevered portion.
Hinged Building Shrinkage Compensation Device
A device for compensating for the natural shrinkage of building materials includes one or more gear members mounted on a base plate. A fastener extends through a hole in the base plate and axially fixed relative to the gear member. The gear member is engaged with teeth in the base plate and rotatable relative to the fastener. The axis of rotation of the gear member is not aligned with its central axis. The base plate can be securely fastened to a first building member with the fastener axially fixed relative to a second building member but not axially fixed relative to the base plate and first building member.
Insulated reinforced foam sheathing, reinforced elastomeric vapor permeable air barrier foam panel and method of making and using same
The invention comprises a product. The product comprises a first foam panel having an edge, a first primary surface and an opposite second primary surface and a second foam panel having an edge, a first primary surface and an opposite second primary surface, wherein the first and second foam panels are disposed such that their edges are adjacent each other and define a joint therebetween. The product also comprises an elongate metal strip having a body portion and a projection extending outwardly from the body portion, the metal strip being disposed such that at least a portion of the projection is disposed in the joint between the foam panels and at least a portion of the body portion covers a portion of the second primary surface of the first foam panel and a portion of the second primary surface of the second foam panel. A method of making and using the composite panel is also disclosed.
Hinged building shrinkage compensation device
A device for compensating for the natural shrinkage of building materials includes an expander mounted on a base plate. An opening in the expander aligns with a hole in the base plate to define an axis and receive a shank of a fastener. The expander is biased axially away from the base plate substantially at the axis. The base plate can be securely fastened to a first building member. A fastener can be axially fixed relative to a second building member and the expander but not axially fixed relative to the base plate and first building member.
WALL FRAMING SYSTEM
The present invention relates to an engineered lumber framing system of pre-fabricated components for construction of structures comprising: a first top plate comprising an end, the end including corners at variable angles forming a first stepped construct; and a second top plate comprising an end, the end including corners at variable angles forming a second stepped construct; wherein the first stepped construct fits into the second stepped construct forming a corner connection; and wherein the first top plate and the second top plate each comprise of a plurality of sheet layers. The corner connection comprises a haunched stub tenon-like corner joint.
REINFORCED TIE ROD AND A BUILDING WALL USING THE SAME
A building wall includes a bottom plate and a top plate; a first stud and a second stud extending between the bottom plate and the top plate, the first stud and the second stud are spaced apart and next to each other; a tie rod including a first end portion operably anchored to a foundation and a second end operably attached to the building wall; a sheathing attached to the bottom plate, the top plate, the first stud and the second stud; a longitudinal member including a longitudinal hole, the tie rod extending through the hole; and the longitudinal member is operably attached to the sheathing.
