The surfactant remains in the gel and reduces surface tension of aerosols and droplets containing viruses and bacteria entrained in the air flowing through the air treatment media contacting the infectious agent attenuating gel more rapidly and efficiently attenuating or inactivating the viruses and bacteria preferably also destroying them by lysing them.
