In one embodiment, the components of a modular platform for configuring gutter guard systems include a number of main bodies, a number of front receivers, a number of rear receivers, a number of screens, a number of clips, and a number of brackets.

The modular platform includes a number of interchangeable components that can be assembled to form a gutter guard system for use with specific rain gutters based on a rain gutter's style, size, color, and attachment mechanism used to secure the rain gutter to a structure and/or roofline. One such interchangeable component is a main body with securing features. The securing features of the main body can be positioned and arranged such that when two main bodies are appropriately positioned, the securing features engage in a manner that secures the two main bodies together into a continuous main body assembly. The securing features can be, tabs and slots that cooperate to form a friction fit or a series of hooks and aperture edges to capture the hooks to secure the two main bodies together.

The bracket assembly is configured such that the trough is rotatable about the longitudinal axis between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the open top end faces away from an edge of the eave. In the second position, the open top end is positioned to catch rainwater flowing off the edge of the eave. The system also comprises a moisture detector for detecting rainwater falling onto the roof and a drive assembly operatively connected to the moisture detector. The drive assembly rotates the trough from the first position to the second position in response to rainwater being detected by the moisture detector.
