DRUG-COATED MEDICAL DEVICES
Disclosed herein is a drug-coated medical device in the form of a balloon having an inner surface and an outer hydrophobic surface, an adhesion balance layer directly on the outer hydrophobic surface of the balloon, comprising a hydrophilic polymer and/or a hydrophilic compound where the hydrophilic compound has a molecular weight of less than 1,000 Daltons, and a therapeutic layer directly on the adhesion balance layer comprising a therapeutic agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the therapeutic agent is a hydrophobic therapeutic agent with one or more hydrogen-bonding groups and is provided as discrete drug particles in the therapeutic layer, the drug particles have at least one dimension that is less than 25 .Math.m and are uniformly distributed on the surface of the balloon, and the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is hydrophilic and has a molecular weight of less than 1,000 Daltons. A process to make the drug-coated medical device and uses thereof are also disclosed.
IN SITU SOLIDIFYING SOLUTIONS AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THEREOF
Described herein are fluid complex coacervates that produce solid adhesives in situ. Oppositely charged polyelectrolytes were designed to form fluid adhesive complex coacervates at ionic strengths higher than the ionic strength of the application site, but an insoluble adhesive solid or gel at the application site. When the fluid, high ionic strength adhesive complex coacervates are introduced into the lower ionic strength application site, the fluid complex coacervate is converted to a an adhesive solid or gel as the salt concentration in the complex coacervate equilibrates to the application site salt concentration. In one embodiment, the fluid complex coacervates are designed to solidify in situ at physiological ionic strength and have numerous medical applications. In other aspects, the fluid complex coacervates can be used in aqueous environment for non-medical applications.
STENT
The present disclosure relates to several embodiments of a stent. For example, the present disclosure describes a stent comprising a material selected from a biocompatible material, a bioabsorbable material, and combinations thereof; and particles selected from biocompatible amorphous particles, bioabsorbable amorphous particles, and combinations thereof.
The stent may also include a coating of a material selected from a biocompatible material, a bioabsorbable material, and combinations thereof; nanocapsules and a therapeutic agent encapsulated in the nanocapsules.
The stent disclosed herein enables the walls of an airway or blood vessel to be supported, while there is controlled delivery of the therapeutic agent to said airway or blood vessel to prevent, cure, alleviate or repair symptoms of disease.
Device and methods for treating urothelial conditions
A disposable device for treating a condition of a ureter or kidney having a cylindrical body about 1-2 mm in diameter by about 5 to 10 mm in length and having a top and bottom end. The body is made of absorbent material that expands upon contact with pharmaceutical agent and bodily fluids and includes a string connected to the bottom end of the body for removing the device. The device can be used to treat a condition of the ureter or kidney by inserting into the ureter or kidney, delivering a pharmaceutical agent, and removing the device after it has been impregnated with fluid. The device can be included in a kit with an insertion device and/or appropriate pharmaceutical agents.
Drug eluting medical device
The present disclosure relates to medical devices, and methods for producing and using the devices. In embodiments, the medical device may be a buttress including a porous substrate possessing a therapeutic layer of a chemotherapeutic agent and optional excipient(s) thereon. By varying the form of chemotherapeutic agents and excipients, the medical devices may be used to treat both the area to which the medical device is attached as well as tissue at a distance therefrom.
DRUG-COATED BALLOON CATHETER
Disclosed herein is a drug-coated balloon catheter including: a hub; a soft tip; a tube which connects the hub and the soft tip and is formed of a material having higher rigidity than the soft tip; and a balloon which is mounted on the tube and coated with a drug on the surface, wherein the tube includes: a guide lumen which allows a guide wire to be movable, the guide wire being inserted into a blood vessel via the hub; and an injection lumen into which a contrast medium is injected, the contrast medium being injected into the balloon through the hub or discharged therefrom, wherein the injection lumen includes: a flow center which is a portion corresponding to a width of the guide lumen; and a pair of bend supports which is extended beyond both end portions of the guide lumen on both sides of the flow center and deformed in response to bending of the tube, and the injection lumen has a cross-sectional area more than a half of a cross-sectional area of the guide lumen.
Drug coated balloon catheters for nonvascular strictures
Embodiments of the present invention provide a method of treating a stricture in a nonvascular body lumen such as urethral strictures, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) strictures, ureteral strictures, esophageal strictures, sinus strictures, and biliary tract strictures. Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for treating at least one of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The method can include delivering, for example, via drug coated balloon catheters, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative drugs (e.g., rapamycin, paclitaxel, and their analogues) and one or more additives.
NATURAL COMPOSITION BASED ON POLYMERS TO BE ELECTROSPUN, AND METHOD TO PREPARE THE SAME
The invention concerns a composition to be electrospun comprising a first compound to be electrospun, an electrospinning promoter and at least one active ingredient, as well as a method to prepare it. This composition allows to obtain electrospun nanometric fibers with good structural and absorption properties.
SCAFFOLDS TO TREAT SOLID TUMOR CELLS AND ESCAPE VARIANTS
Implantable scaffolds that treat solid tumors and escape variants and that provide effective vaccinations against cancer recurrence are described. The scaffolds include genetically-reprogrammed lymphocytes and a lymphocyte-activating moiety.
BALLOON CATHETER WITH HYDROGEL COATING
The invention relates to a balloon catheter (1) to be introduced into the blood vessel system of the human or animal body, said catheter having a longitudinally extending shaft (2), with the balloon catheter (1) comprising a distal portion (A) in which a balloon (3) is arranged that is expandable by the supply of a fluid through a lumen (9) extending through the shaft (2), with the distal tip (8) of the balloon catheter (1) being provided with a coating consisting of a hydrogel (7). The invention provides a balloon catheter (1) capable of easily passing through constricted areas in blood vessels.
