CHAMBER FOR TRANSPLANTATION AND DEVICE FOR TRANSPLANTATION
According to the present invention, there are provided a chamber for transplantation, including a membrane for immunoisolation including a porous membrane at at least part of a boundary between an inside and an outside of the chamber for transplantation, in which the porous membrane contains a polymer and has a layered compact portion where a pore diameter is the smallest within the membrane, a pore diameter continuously increases in a thickness direction from the compact portion toward both one surface A and the other surface B of the porous membrane, a porosity in a vicinity of the surface A is 65% or more, an average pore diameter of the surface A is larger than an average pore diameter of the surface B, and the surface B is disposed on the inside of the chamber for transplantation; and a device for transplantation including the chamber for transplantation enclosing a biological constituent therein. In the chamber for transplantation of the present invention, angiogenesis in a recipient is induced and a deterioration in substance permeability is unlikely to occur.
TISSUE HEALING AGENT
The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for healing tissue, said pharmaceutical composition containing: adherent cells originating from mesenchymal tissue that has been treated with a physiologically active polypeptide or an LPS; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
Pharmaceutical formulation for use in spinal fusion
A pharmaceutical formulation for use in a spinal fusion method, comprising a composition for forming a matrix, a kit comprising the composition, a pharmaceutical product obtainable from the pharmaceutical formulation, and an interbody spinal fusion cage containing the pharmaceutical formulation or the pharmaceutical product are described herein. The composition comprises at least a first matrix material precursor component and a second matrix material precursor component that are able to crosslink to form the matrix under appropriate conditions, a bioactive factor that is biologically active for stimulating bone formation between two vertebrae and for effecting or supporting spinal fusion. The bioactive factor is PTH, optionally a PTH fusion peptide. The bioactive factor is releasably incorporated in the matrix upon crosslinking of the matrix material precursor components.
BIODEGRADABLE SILK EAR TUBES
In some embodiments, the present invention provides methods for making resorbable ear tubes including the steps of providing a silk fibroin solution, and forming a silk ear tube from the silk fibroin solution, wherein the silk ear tube is less than 2 mm in length and has an outer diameter of less than 1.5 mm, and wherein the silk ear tube is resorbable. In some embodiments, the present invention also provides methods for treating otitis media including the step of introducing a silk ear tube into the ear canal of a subject, wherein the silk ear tube is less than 2 mm in length and has an outer diameter of less than 1.5 mm, and wherein the silk ear tube is resorbed by the subject.
In-situ formed intervertebral fusion device and method
An orthopedic device for implanting between adjacent vertebrae comprising: an arcuate balloon and a hardenable material within said balloon. In some embodiments, the balloon has a footprint that substantially corresponds to a perimeter of a vertebral endplate. An inflatable device is inserted through a cannula into an intervertebral space and oriented so that, upon expansion, a natural angle between vertebrae will be at least partially restored. At least one component selected from the group consisting of a load-bearing component and an osteobiologic component is directed into the inflatable device through a fluid communication means.
Anticalcification Treatment For Impantable Biological Tissues Using Calcitonin
This invention relates to the field of surgical implants, and in particular to a method of treating biomedical material, and more particularly bioprosthetic heart valves and tracheas, to mitigate calcification when implanted in a mammalian body.
