A device for leveling and aligning tiles and method for leveling and aligning tiles are disclosed. In one embodiment, the leveling device includes a body and two spaced and parallel strip members extending transversely from the body. Each of the spaced and parallel strip members extend to the front and rear of the body. Two opposing lateral open windows are formed in the body. A breakaway section is defined along the body. A wedge device is provided for penetrating one or more of the two opposing lateral open windows and exerting a force on the tiles for leveling them relative to each other.

According to one embodiment, the tile leveling device includes a base having a top surface and a bottom surface. The base includes a projection extending upwardly from the top surface. The tile leveling device further includes a stem detachably coupled to the top surface of the base. The stem includes a lower portion and an upper portion having a threaded portion. A demountable modular wall system for a building having a floor and a ceiling. The system includes panels having a top end and a bottom end with a movement direction defined perpendicularly therebetween. A height adjustment mechanism is positioned between the bottom end of one of the panels and the floor. The height adjustment mechanism has a mounting bracket that sandwiches the bottom end of the one of the panels. The height adjustment mechanism includes a receiving cylinder that threadingly engages with a first member. The first member also threadingly engages with a second member positioned between the first member and the floor. The first member is moveable relative to the receiving cylinder in the movement direction such that rotation of the first member selectively adjusts the height of the one of the panels.
