Disclosed is a bioprocessing system comprising apparatus (200) including a centrifugal separation housing (210) having a temperature controllable compartment (215) for removably accepting a separation chamber (50), the apparatus further comprising at least one mixing station (250) for supporting one or more fluid storage vessels (10, 20, 30, 40), the station including a temperature controllable area (252) for increasing or decreasing the temperature of the contents of the or each supported vessel. The system further includes a disposable fluidic arrangement (100) including a centrifugal separation chamber (50) removably mountable within the compartment (215) and having one or more ports (52) allowing fluid ingress into, or egress out of the chamber, via the one or more ports in use, said ports being in fluid communication with one or more of said fluid storage vessels via fluid conduits (12, 22, 32, 42) and via one or more valve arrangements

Device for Cross Flow Filtration

A whole blood filtration device is provided with a filter membrane separating a feeding volume and a clean side of the filter membrane from each other. The feeding volume communicates with a first feeding side opening and with a second feeding side opening. The filter membrane has pores with a pore size that ensures permeability of the filter membrane to blood plasma/serum and that retains blood cells. The first feeding side opening can be coupled to a first blood pump for feeding blood from the first feeding side opening into the feeding volume so that blood plasma/serum permeates the filter membrane and blood cells, retained by the filter membrane, exit from the feeding volume through the second feeding side opening.

Thawing biological substances

Dry thawing systems and devices for thawing biological substances are provided herein. Methods for thawing biological substances are also provided.

Cell washing using acoustic waves

Disclosed is a device for separating a cellular component from a multicomponent fluid. The device can comprise a body, a first acoustic wave generator, and a second acoustic wave propagating component. The body can define a channel having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The channel can extend along a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end. The first acoustic wave generator can be coupled to the first surface. The first acoustic wave generator can be configured to generate an acoustic wave having a wavelength. The second acoustic wave propagating component can be coupled to the second surface. The second surface can be spaced an integer fractional multiple of the wavelength from the first surface and each integer factional multiple equals a number of pressure nodes within the channel.

System and method for inertial focusing microfiltration for intra-operative blood salvage autotransfusion

A system for intra-operative blood salvage autotransfusion is provided. The system comprises at least one inlet configured to receive whole blood of a patient; at least one curvilinear microchannel in fluid flow connection with the at least one inlet, the at least one curvilinear microchannel being adapted to isolate circulating tumor cells in the whole blood, based on cell size, along at least one portion of a cross-section of the at least one curvilinear microchannel; and at least two outlets in fluid flow connection with the at least one curvilinear microchannel, at least one outlet of the at least two outlets being configured to flow the circulating tumor cells isolated from the whole blood, and at least one other outlet of the at least two outlets being configured to flow at least a portion of a remainder of the whole blood, cleansed of the isolated circulating tumor cells, for return to the patient.

Methods for preparing frozen plasma material for rapid thawing in an emergency situation

Systems for controlled freezing, storing and thawing a biological material in a bag and supporting apparatus. The systems are adapted to receive the biological material therein for freezing, storing, transporting and rapid thawing immediately prior to administration to a patient in need of the biological material.

Accelerated method for preparing platelet rich plasma
10792411 · 2020-10-06 ·

Provided is an accelerated method for preparing platelet rich plasma (PrP) without centrifugation or filtration. The method comprises contacting a sample of whole blood with an anti-coagulant and an inducer of Rouleaux formation; allowing the mixture to stand thereby depleting the sample of RBCs, and collecting the platelet-rich plasma fraction. The PrP volume obtained by the present method is about 10-60% of the volume of the starting whole blood sample, and contains less than 200,000 RBCs and at least 100,000 platelets per microliter.

A method for filtering blood is disclosed that in one embodiment includes the steps of depositing unfiltered blood along at least one side of a semi-permeable surface having multiple pores, depositing target tissue along at least an opposing side of the semi-permeable surface, and permitting the unfiltered blood to flow at least partially along the semi-permeable surface to filter the unfiltered blood. Embodiments of the invention can remove self-directed autoantibodies from the blood while reducing the complications of conventional treatments such as plasmaphoresis, and return the patient's own blood cells and its plasma components, less the disease-causing self-directed antibodies. A blood filter and a blood bag are also disclosed.
