The invention is a wearable breast pump system including a housing shaped at least in part to fit inside a bra and a piezo air-pump. The piezo air-pump is fitted in the housing and forms part of a closed loop system that drives a separate, deformable diaphragm to generate negative air pressure. The diaphragm is removably mounted on a breast shield.

A method for facilitating milk extraction from a female breast may involve applying a breast contacting portion of a breast pump system to a breast, activating the breast pump system to administer multiple breast pumping cycles, and applying vibrations to the breast during at least a portion of each of the breast pumping cycles, using a vibration device. A vibration generating device may be a component of a breast pump system, an added attachment on a breast pump system or a separate component that works in conjunction with a breast pump system.

A leak guard for use with a breast pump suction flange having a liquid extraction port through which liquid from a wearer's breast flows when the breast pump suction flange is worn by a wearer includes a flexible body defining an outer perimeter of the flexible body. The flexible body is configured to contact an exterior of the breast pump suction flange and substantially conform to an exterior contour thereof when worn. A liquid collection region defined by the flexible body within the outer perimeter is positioned beneath a bottom perimeter of the breast pump suction flange when the flexible body is worn to collect liquid leakage from the bottom perimeter.

A personal accessory kit (PAS) for a breast pump is provided. The PAS and breast pump together form a complete breast pump system. The PAS has a locking mechanism to lock a diaphragm base of the system to a cap of the diaphragm of the system. The PAS further has an ergonomically-shaped handle. A flattened port adapter plug is provided for reducing single pumping vacuum pressure when a single port of the breast pump is used. The adapter allows for the safe utilization of a single port of a breast pump.

A breast shield unit of a breast pump for expressing human breastmilk includes a breast shield (1) to be placed onto a mother's breast, a breastmilk collection container (5) for receiving expressed breastmilk, an adapter (2) for connecting the breast shield (1) to the breastmilk collection container (5) and a valve head (4). A breastmilk channel extends from the breast shield (1) into the breastmilk collection container (5) through the adapter (2) and the valve head (4). The valve head (4) includes a valve (40) which closes and opens the breastmilk channel during the pumping action, wherein a fill level sensor (6) for measuring a fill level of the breastmilk collection container (5) is arranged in the valve head (4). The breast shield unit according to the invention facilitates a fill level measurement without a structural change of the breast shield and breastmilk collection container. Moreover, it facilitates data interchange with external information storage and/or information processing units.

A lactation system is disclosed. Embodiments include at least one extraction mechanism including a compression mechanism and a collection mechanism, and a controller. The compression mechanism can include a plurality of manipulable members, each operably coupled to an actuator and arrangeable circumferentially about a breast of a user such that each member can be actuated to selectively apply pressure to a region of the breast. The collection mechanism can be removably coupleable to the compression mechanism and can comprise a storage compartment to receive and store milk The controller can be operably coupleable to the actuators to cause the members to move according to a movement pattern which can be configured to stimulate the breast to induce the flow of milk from the breast and modulated based on sensor feedback. A wearable garment with an inner structure can be removably coupled to the extraction mechanism. An outer cover can be arrangeable to conceal the extraction mechanism.

A portable device for the decontamination of a breast. The aim of the device is to reduce the risk of mastitis, even when the patient has a medicament incompatibility. For this purpose, the invention includes a decontamination unit which decontaminates the breast at least by means of a physical method.
