Apparatus and method for controlling fluid flow
Apparatuses for flowing multiple fluids in a single channel while substantially maintaining fluid separation are disclosed. In one configuration, the apparatus includes a first internal surface portion with an affinity to a first fluid and a second internal surface portion with an affinity to a second fluid. In another configuration, the apparatus includes a first fluid channel portion, a second fluid channel portion wrapped helically around the first fluid channel portion, and an opening therebetween. Also disclosed is an apparatus for maintaining substantially even fluid flow in fluid pathways having a first flow resistor portion, a second flow resistor portion, and a fluid channel therebetween.

Arrangement with a blood pump and a gas exchanger for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
The invention relates to an arrangement having a blood pump and a gas exchanger for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. According to the invention, the blood pump is designed as a pulsatile blood pump and is arranged with the gas exchanger in the same housing. The pulsatile blood pump and the gas exchanger are preferably connected to the same gas source so that the blood pump can be pneumatically driven. The novel ECMO system has a simple design, is flexible, and in particular can be used directly on the patient.

Intravascular membrane oxygenator catheter with oscillating hollow fiber membranes
The present disclosure describes intravascular oxygenation systems and methods with one or more of improved oxygen diffusion flux, improved resistance to bubble formation on the surface of non-porous hollow fibers, and reduced size. The systems and methods include a pneumatic inlet coupled to a pneumatic source that provides a gas containing oxygen at a high pressure. A plurality of hollow fiber membranes (HFM) are in pneumatic communication with the pneumatic inlet to receive the gas containing oxygen and with an outlet to exhaust a partially deoxygenated gas. An electronic controller drives the motor to oscillate the plurality of HFMs to cause a diffusive flux of the gas containing oxygen from the plurality of HFMs into a region of interest of a subject. The electronic controller may drive the motor according to an oscillation pattern, which may include a macro-oscillation with superimposed micro-oscillations.
