Extracorporeal circulation device
An extracorporeal blood circulator includes a control unit and a speed manipulation section. A rotation display section displays a lower limit rotation setting value of a pump motor in accordance with a command of the control unit. The lower limit rotation speed setting value is a minimum rotation speed for preventing backflow of blood inside a circulation circuit A manually adjusted speed setting request from the manipulation section controls the pump speed, except that the controller enforces the lower limit speed setting unless receiving confirmation from a manipulator.
Apparatus and method of controlling an extracorporeal blood treatment
An apparatus is described for extracorporeal blood treatment (1), comprising a treatment unit (2), an extracorporeal blood circuit (8) and a fluid evacuation line (10). The apparatus comprises a control unit (21) connected with a pressure sensor (13, 14) and with a blood pump (9) and configured to move the blood pump (9), generating a variable flow (Q(t)) with a constant component (Q.sub.b) and a variable component (Qvar(t)) having a nil average value; the variable flow generates, in the expansion chamber (11, 12), a progression of the pressure that is variable over time (P(t)) with a pressure component (Pvar(t)) oscillating about an average value (P.sub.avg). The control unit receives, from the sensor, a plurality of values (P.sub.j) and calculates the average value of the pressure (P.sub.avg), acquires an estimated value of volume variation (AP) in the expansion chamber (11, 12) connected to the variable flow component (Qvar(t)), calculates, as a function of the pressure values (P.sub.j), an estimated value of pressure variation (AP) in the expansion chamber (11; 12) that is representative of the oscillating pressure component (Pvar(t)) and determines a representative magnitude of a blood level (L) in the expansion chamber (11, 12) as a function of the average value (P.sub.avg) of the pressure (P(t)), of the estimated value of volume variation (AV) and of the estimated pressure variation (AP) in the expansion chamber.
PRESSURE SENSING EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION DEVICE
An extracorporeal blood circulation system reduces the risk of generation of air bubbles entering the circulation circuit associated with placement of a pressure sensor that detects a patient's blood pressure at a blood removal line. Instead of directly measuring pressure at the blood removal line where suction exists, an intermediate part pressure sensor detects pressure between a centrifugal pump and an oxygenator. A controller identifies a discharge pressure specific to the centrifugal pump based on a rotation speed of the pump and a blood flow rate. The discharge pressure and the intermediate pressure values are combined to estimate the pressure at the blood removal line.
Method and system for controlled hyperthermia
Methods and for treatment of cancer and other diseases including complications from late stage viral infections by inducing hyperthermia in a patient relying on withdrawing blood from the patient and returning the withdrawn blood to the patient to establish an extracorporeal flow circuit. Blood is heated by passing through the extracorporeal circuit at a controlled rate until a target body core temperature in is achieved. Usually, the blood will be subjected to a continuously re-circulating dialysis to balance electrolytes. Additionally, the blood will be subjected to a continuously recirculating regeneration through a carbon sorbent column where toxins and contaminants are removed. The blood temperature is maintained at the target blood temperature for a treatment period, and the blood is cooled after the treatment period has been completed. The method can also be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, hepatitis, sepsis, the Epstein-Barr virus, and patients with life threatening complications from other viruses, including the COVID-19 virus. A method for removing viruses from the blood supply in an external circuit is also presented.
Systems and methods including a human-shaped graphical element
Graphical user interfaces for use with extracorporeal blood treatment systems may include a human-shaped graphical element and one or more process feature graphical elements. The human-shaped graphical element may be moved automatically or manually by users with respect to the process feature graphical elements to provide indications with respect to the process features corresponding to the human-shaped graphical element and the process feature graphical elements.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR OPTIMIZATION OF PLASMA COLLECTION VOLUMES
A system for collecting plasma comprises a separator to separate whole blood from a donor into a plasma product and a second blood component, an anticoagulant line to combine anticoagulant with the whole blood, a touchscreen, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive donor parameters electronically from a donor management system. The controller is configured to use a target volume for raw plasma which is based at least in part on donor height and weight used to calculate total donor blood volume, the target volume for raw plasma based on the total donor blood volume. The controller is configured to control the system to operate draw and return phases to withdraw whole blood from a donor and return the second blood component to the donor until a volume of raw plasma in the collection container equals the target volume of raw plasma.
