Rigid chamber for cell separation from a flexible disposable bag

Method consists of placing a flexible container within a rigid frame and expanding the container by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure such that the walls of the container conform to the inside walls of the rigid frame thus forming a well-defined chamber. The system has the capability of reducing the volume of the chamber by adjusting the distance between the walls of the rigid container. The methods and systems so described are applicable to closed sterile systems that employ immunomagnetic isolation or purging of components from blood products. By providing a fixed volume and at least one surface upon which targeted entities can be magnetically deposited, target cells in the case of positive isolations can be magnetically held, flushed with wash buffers over them to remove entrapped cells and finally the recovery of product of very high purifies and at high yields.

Blood processing apparatus and method for preventing cancer metastasis

A blood treatment method includes the steps of inducing flow of a patient's blood through an extracorporeal device inlet and outlet in fluid connection to the circulatory system of the patient. Metastatic DNA contained within patient blood can be rendered non-oncogenic by passing patient blood over a biochemical reactor surface having attached or immobilized DNase 1 enzyme, with the biochemical reactor being contained within the extracorporeal device. The treatment method is performed without adding any chemicals to the blood of the patient.

A detoxification method includes the steps of inducing flow of patient blood through an extracorporeal device inlet and outlet in fluid connection to the circulatory system of a patient. Biological agents including lipopolysaccharide (LPS) contained within patient blood can be detoxified by passing patient blood over a biochemical reactor surface having attached or immobilized Saccharomyces boulardii alkaline phosphatase enzyme, with the biochemical reactor being contained within the extracorporeal device. An acyloxyacyl hydrolase enzyme may also be used on the biochemical reactor surface.

PROSTHETIC DISORDER RESPONSE SYSTEMS

A fully implanted automatic disorder response system is devised to act as a backup “immune” system, automatically detecting and dispensing an enzyme, for example, deficient due to an inborn error of metabolism. In response to a disease, the agent released is one or more drugs. By directly pipeline-targeting agents through a closed system of drug reservoirs, fluid and electrical lines, and leak-free, durable, and safe tissue connectors to the site of disease, the system achieves a level of efficiency critically superior to the systemic dispersal of an agent into the circulation, fundamentally liberalizing the use of drugs. In comorbid disease, each morbidity is assigned to an arm or channel in a hierarchical control system. Beginning with symptomatic indicia sensors, data is analyzed and passed up through successively higher-level nodes that generate a cross-morbidity view passed up to an implanted microprocessor which effectuates a release of drugs calculated to optimize homeostasis.

Flexible bioprocessing container with partial dividing partition

Methods of separating magnetic particles from a fluid include introducing a fluid mixture that includes a liquid media, a biological component, and magnetic particles into an internal compartment of a container through an inlet, allowing at least a portion of the mixture to travel around a partition formed within the internal compartment and then exit the internal compartment through an outlet on the opposite side of the partition, and applying a magnetic field to the mixture in the internal compartment so that the magnetic particles are retained within the container or internal compartment thereof by the magnetic field. The partition is formed by permanently or reversibly securing upper and lower container walls together, such as by welding or pressing, between the inlet and the outlet such that the media and biological component must flow around the partition and through the magnetic field to exit the internal compartment through the outlet.

TREATMENT OF VIRAL INFECTION BY APHERESIS

The invention is directed to the treatment of COVID-19 patients by withdrawing SARS-CoV-2 viral particles from the patient's circulation by apheresis using a binding agent in either a fixed bed, or in a form easily removed, such as by being complexed with magnetic particles. The reduction in viral particles may be combined by reduction of active gal-3 levels in the patient which may provide further relief of conditions associated with COVID-19 that may include symptoms associated with the cytokine storm that is associated with COVID-19 infection. Both SARS-CoV-2 viral particles and gal-3 may be bound by modified citrus pectin of less than sixty thousand Daltons. The process may be combined with the administration of supportive agents like antivirals, anti-inflammatories, immune based inhibitors, vitamins and modified citrus pectin.

MAGNETIC IMMUNO-PARTICLE AND USE THEREOF

Provided are magnetic immunoparticles and use thereof, specifically, magnetic immunoparticles including a cell membrane capable of capturing a pathogenic material and magnetic particles attached to the cell membrane, a method of detecting pathogenic materials using the magnetic immunoparticles, and a method of diagnosing and treating an infectious disease using the magnetic immunoparticles. The magnetic immunoparticles according to an aspect may include cell membranes capable of capturing pathogenic materials, and thus may minimize side effects in vivo, and may detect various kinds of pathogenic materials due to characteristics of the cells from which the cell membranes are derived. Further, since the magnetic immunoparticles include magnetic particles, the magnetic immunoparticles may be easily separated by applying a magnetic field, and thus pathogenic materials may be more effectively detected and removed.

METHODS FOR TREATING ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

A method and system for treating Alzheimer's disease wherein blood, spinal fluid or brain cavity fluid is circulated into and outside of the body by means of blood pumps or other external circulatory systems. While passing through the pumping system, the amyloid plaques and tau tangles are filtered from the fluids and returned to the body lowering the protein levels, and in the process, reduce symptoms. In one embodiment a patient's blood is filtered using a pump to circulate the blood from the patient to the collection vessel where an electrical current will cause anything that has a positive charge to be attracted to a cathode plate suspended in the collection vessel for later disposal. In an alternate embodiment a patient's brain and/or spinal fluid a pump operates to circulate a flushing fluid. The pump will circulate the solution from the collection vessel to the patient.

Galectin-3 plasmapheresis therapy

The invention is directed to the removal of serum gal-3 from circulation by plasmapheresis, comprising at least in part donor apheresis, using gal-3 binding agents in either a fixed bed, or in a form easily removed, such as by being complexed with magnetic particles. This method, on its own, brings a sharp reduction and relief from the inflammation and fibroses that can be induced by circulating gal-3. The process may be combined with the administration of gal-3 binding agents, such as modified citrus pectin, to further lower unbound gal-3 levels, to the point where gal-3 in the tissues may be addressed. This method may also be combined with removal of TNF receptors to provide an effective treatment for cancer.
