Blood treatment systems and methods

Dialysis systems comprising actuators that cooperate to perform dialysis functions and sensors that cooperate to monitor dialysis functions are disclosed. According to one aspect, such a hemodialysis system comprises a user interface model layer, a therapy layer, below the user interface model layer, and a machine layer below the therapy layer. The user interface model layer is configured to manage the state of a graphical user interface and receive inputs from a graphical user interface. The therapy layer is configured to run state machines that generate therapy commands based at least in part on the inputs from the graphical user interface. The machine layer is configured to provide commands for the actuators based on the therapy commands.

Collection of mononuclear cells upon mid-procedure termination

Mid-procedure termination of a mononuclear cell collection procedure may prevent collection of an amount of red blood cells that is required to harvest a complete mononuclear cell product. Blood separation systems and methods are provided for minimizing the impact of or recovering from mid-procedure termination of such a mononuclear cell collection procedure. According to one approach, blood or separated red blood cells are conveyed into a red blood cell collection container relatively early in the procedure to minimize the impact of a later termination of the procedure. According to another approach, blood and/or separated red blood cells within a fluid processing assembly are redirected through the fluid processing assembly following mid-procedure termination to allow for at least partial mononuclear cell collection. According to yet another approach, a double-needle fluid processing assembly may be converted into a single-needle configuration to allow for continued processing following mid-procedure termination.

BLOOD PURIFICATION APPARATUS
20170312412 · 2017-11-02 ·

A blood purification apparatus includes a blood circuit, a dialyzer capable of purifying the blood flowing through the blood circuit, a blood pump provided to an arterial blood circuit and that delivers the blood in the blood circuit, and an air-trap chamber capable of collecting air in the blood flowing through the blood circuit. A peristaltic pump (a substitution-fluid-infusion device) that is capable of infusing a substitution fluid is connected to the air-trap chamber. A substitution fluid layer is formable on a blood layer in the air-trap chamber. The air-trap chamber is provided with a blood-interface-detecting device that is capable of detecting an interface between the blood layer and the substitution fluid layer that are formed in the air-trap chamber. A lack of substitution fluid in the air-trap chamber is detectable on the basis of the interface between the blood layer and the substitution fluid layer that is detected by the blood-interface-detecting device.

SYSTEM FOR CONTINUOUS RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY

Methods and systems for providing continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) to a patient are provided. The system includes a hemofiltration unit that provides continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH), a replacement fluid flow regulator configured to regulate the flow of a replacement fluid, an anticoagulant flow regulator configured to pump an anticoagulant, and a blood warmer. The system provides enhanced access to the extracorporeal circuit for blood analysion, infusion of products and/or anticoagulation control. The system may be used to treat patients having renal insufficiency.

Method and Apparatuses for Preparing an Extracorporeal Blood Circuit for the Treatment of Blood

The present disclosure concerns a method for preparing an extracorporeal blood circuit for its use in a blood treatment of a patient, which treatment is carried out using a blood treatment apparatus and using a blood treatment device, which comprises a blood chamber and a dialysate chamber partitioned off therefrom by a membrane, The method comprising: filling the extracorporeal blood circuit using a priming solution, wherein the priming solution comprises citrate, or filling of the extracorporeal blood circuit using a priming solution and using a citrate solution. The invention further comprises devices suitable for carrying out the method.

System and method for the re-anticoagulation of platelet rich plasma

A method for the re-anticoagulation of platelet rich plasma in a blood apheresis system includes priming the blood apheresis system with anticoagulant, such that a volume of anticoagulant is transferred to a PRP container. The method may then transfer the anticoagulant within the PRP container to a red blood cell container, and collect a volume of platelet rich plasma within the PRP container. The platelet rich plasma may be collected in a plurality of cycles. Between collection cycles, the method may transfer a portion of the volume of anticoagulant from the red blood cell container to the PRP container.

MICROPLEGIA DELIVERY SYSTEM
20220047802 · 2022-02-17 ·

Microplegia systems describe herein use syringe pumps that are controlled in a coordinated fashion to deliver cardioplegia medications during an open-heart surgery at the prescribed dosages and/or rates. The microplegia systems link the delivery rate of the syringe pumps with the delivery rate of the cardioplegia blood flow rate. A perfusionist can enter prescribed drug concentrations, desired ratios between drug and blood, and the expected dose for each phase of the myocardial protection scheme that will take place during the open-heart surgery. Additionally, or alternatively, the syringe pump systems described herein can also be used to deliver other non-cardioplegia types of therapeutic substances

System and Method for Washing Shed Blood
20170246376 · 2017-08-31 ·

A method for collecting and washing shed blood includes providing a blood salvage reservoir and a blood salvage system. The user may connect a vacuum inlet port on the reservoir to a vacuum outlet port on the salvage system, connect an inlet port on the reservoir to a patient, and connect a vacuum source to a vacuum connection port on the salvage system. The method may then (1) draw a vacuum on the reservoir to draw shed blood into the reservoir, (2) disconnect the reservoir from the surgical field and salvage system, and (3) connect a second reservoir. The first blood salvage reservoir may then be connected to an automated blood processing system, and the collected blood may be introducing into the automated blood processing system and washed. The blood processing system may then return a portion of the washed blood to the patient.
