Two-stage open tailgate

A two-stage open tailgate includes a handle assembly disposed at an outer surface of a half door, wherein the half door is opened when the handle assembly performs a first operation, a full door disposed at a rear surface of the half door and opened in an integrated state with the half door when the handle assembly performs a second operation, a first striker mounted to one end of the half door, a second striker mounted to a vehicle body such that the second striker is disposed adjacent to the first striker in a closed state of the half door, a dual latch formed at one end of the full door at positions respectively corresponding to the first striker and the second striker, wherein the handle assembly and the dual latch are spaced apart from each other when the half door is opened.

Motor vehicle

A motor vehicle has a tailgate arranged pivotably on a body. The tailgate in a closed position closes a cargo space opening of the body at the rear and in an open position at least partially exposes the cargo space opening. A tailgate latch locks the closed position of the tailgate and has a closing element and a locking mechanism interacting with the closing element in the closed position. In order to make available a variable cargo space size, in which an open position of the tailgate can be secured, a support arm is pivotably articulated with one end between a rest position, in which the support arm is immovably secured, and a functional position, in which the support arm pivots in the direction of the locking mechanism, and is capable of being fixed with another end to the locking mechanism by an actuation of the locking mechanism.

A vehicle includes a cargo bed, one door, and a latch assembly. The cargo bed includes a plurality of walls. The one door is coupled to the cargo bed and pivotable about a horizontal axis between a closed position and a horizontal open position, and about a vertical axis between the closed position and a vertical open position. The latch assembly includes a striker pin, a latch mechanism, a receiver, and a cam. The striker pin is attached to a respective one of the plurality of walls so as to extend outwardly therefrom. The latch mechanism coupled to the door and selectively latched onto the striker pin. The receiver is coupled to the respective one of the plurality of walls. The cam is coupled to the latch mechanism and the one door. The cam and the receiver cooperate to restrict vertical movement of the one door when the one door is pivotable about the vertical axis.

A means for opening tailgates of vehicles having a split tailgate with a lower door section and an upper door section. The upper door section would essential comprise the rear glass and mounting means of the upper door section to the vehicle. Further, it includes a pair of side guide tracks in the outer frame about the rear glass or panel. The lower door section includes at least four rollers for moving in the guide tracks. A locking and lifting handle in the lower door section releases the lower door to move vertically into the guide tracts. An upper detent or similar device would hold the lower door section on the outside of the upper door section when pushed to the upper extent. When the handle is release, the lower section would be locked to the upper door section.
